Sedit, I think jon is referring to Vesps quotes, although I'm not "sure" ???

Sedit, my brother, you HAVE ALREADY contributed MUCH to this thread/topic.  And as you know, "I", for one, really enjoy, your input. ;)

PLEASE matey, speak your mind, your opinions are MUCH respected, and clearly have MUCH thought put into them 8)

This IS a VERY complex topic, as its taken MANY years, to reach this 'point of control' the 'Powers that Be' are at.

Although this IS a OTC chem forum, we ARE essentially "people first, and chemists second" so consequently, if our "freedom" to LIVE is compromised, our "freedom to practice Clan Chem, is FUCKED!"

We NEED to get our "priorities right",      i.e. if ya vacuum pump is fuckt, then who needs a monograph?

One "reason" I like what anonymous does, IS, that, its NOT a "coordinated group of script kiddies", IT IS, actually ALL of US, who CHOOSE to care.

Add the FACT, that "these cunts" DEPEND on "systems" CREATED by the 99%.....I think many of us are aware just HOW VULNERABLE Anyone IS, who "uses the www" to do business, ARE, to the "old coders with PRINCIPLES" who wanted the web to be a source of FREE data, knowing that "ignorance IS" the BASIS of such "fanatical extremist mentalities, and subsequent behaviour/s"

To "educate" these FOOLS is possibly, one of the "better" solutions. However, they're arrogant cunts, the "NeoCons" and Co, and they seem to be unaware just "how vulnerable" the Systems the RELY upon (to 'do business/make money') truly ARE, to the MASTERS, who wanted the web to be A SOURCE OF FREE INFORMATION FOR EVERYONE" and I KNOW, how "pissed off" some REALLY smart dudes ARE, that some "businessman" wants to "charge for the knowledge"

To be honest, I am actually looking forward to when these cunts get their "comuppence" from a bunch of "script kiddies and trolls" ;D

Man, dont get me wrong, the SHIT is going to 'hit the fan'  BUT i truly believe, that to "allow" what appears to be happening, re: the Laws and Constitution of the USA, (as ONE example, Oz is No angel here either)  REQUIRES the "complicity" of the "people". whether "concious, or UNconscious"

"KNOWLEDGE IS POWER" and at this point, I REALLY want to THANK VESP, for establishing this forum, keeping it going, and PROVIDING a place for fuckwits such as myself, to NOT ONLY learn a great deal, about a favorite "hobby" but ALSO for making a "place" for all these peeps, from ALL OVER the World, to come together, and "share the Love"

Its "up to" ALL OF US, to DO what we can,............exactly "what" that IS, I honestly cant say, it's up to EACH person to decide.....That Vesp could be "bothered" to create this place, trying (very well imo) to continue the "concept" of "sharing the love online", like others places once had, (eg. "The Hive") HAS allowed us to "get here"

Sadly, the current "world situation" is not so good, for the ClanChemist/ry, BUT, the INFORMATION HERE, is "priceless" and the "minds" who CHOOSE
to participate ARE (imho) FULL OF WONDERFUL IDEAS, aka "wonderful"

IF, we CAN "help each other" even just 'a bit' we ARE on the way to MAKING positive changes.  "Life" IS "change" and when the "strong winds of change" blow, only the "flexible" (of mind) are able to avoid "getting uprooted"

Personally, I think 2012 is gonna be a DOOZY :o However, I am VERY grateful, to ALL the folks I've met "here" who HAVE been prepared to HELP me as I stumbled through MUCH learning, and the "opportunity to build relationships" that a forum like this provides, IS, (IMO) a REALLY GOOD THING.

CO-operation between "like minds' will be the ONLY thing which MAY stop, or at least reduce, the potentially REALLY FUCKED TIMES ahead.

I dont know "what exactly, I should/could DO" ....but I AM, very grateful to HAVE "all your great lateral 'minds' to give me (and others) the feedback occurring on these topics.

MAYBE, together, we can share IDEAS and DATA, which "makes THE difference"

At the moment, as much as I love chemistry, I figure that IF, this SHIT continues, and IF "the power's stopped" forums like this will cease to be, at least for some time, and it will be "each man/woman for themselves"

The MORE WE KNOW, about how each and ALL of the members feel/think, the GREATER our chances of "understanding" the chaos around the corner.

Honestly, the way "things ARE" currently, I have TOO MANY other issues to deal with, let alone find time to DO much "practical chemistry".......I "hope" this will change, but for the next 12 months or so, I'm NOT holding my breath

I am "expecting the UNexpected" (unlike many of the Sheeples) and with a bit of wisdom and luck, this attitude will 'pay off'

Merry (MD)x-mas ;D

Stay happy and sweet dreams

f1 ;)

Actually the web was built, first and foremost, by the Military and Scientific Research Communities. Places like cern.ch, csiro.au, etc. were all connected through modems, from which point the need for a protocol to handle information transfers became necessary, giving us ARAPNET, etc. instead of one-one, one-two, etc. connections.* Cern developed that further with the www, but the fact remains the internet was a highly secure, heavily protected means of sharing information at the outset. If you didn't know the access codes, the connection points and didn't have access to the programs used (and very fucking few did), it was gibberish.

Widespread adoption of the www after development at CERN and release of the same as a free-network doesn't change the fact that CERN was, is and always will be a heavy duty nuclear research agency. Any wish to disseminate information freely is based upon the classification of that information, regardless of what the universitities involved may believe, because it is based on a billion odd dollars a year in funding from people who believe in nuclear power and nuclear research, thus, they sell information. Anyone who sells information understands the need to protect information until it is paid for. Who pays for this information? The only real market for ongoing nuclear research is the military industrial complex, nobody else could really be bothered in investing in technology and research that could not be implemented except in the interests of national security.

So the www was developed, championed and provided free-of-charge to the appreciative public by a nuclear research organisation, operated on behalf of the military-industrial complex and which draws its funding from the protection and restriction of information until it is paid for by the same (and which still maintains control of classified material - or it would lose funding awful quick).

I am constantly amazed at the ability of people to apparently accept the overwhelming generosity of the militarists/industrialists in this way. There is no suspicion of a hidden agenda, there is no critical examination of the fallacy that the internet was designed to provide unrestricted, free access to ALL information, to ALL people, ALL of the time. There is similarly little to no examination of the fact that so very much of the development (software, infrastructure, IC's) that pre/post dates the www was funded in whole or in part by the same military-industrial complex, that suddenly seems to have lost its paranoia, its manic security requirements, its insistence upon being able to defeat any weapon it fields (in case it falls into the wrong hands). At the same time, alarming stories about the amount of data collected by the military-industrial complex and the ease with which they continue to do so (despite all promises to the contrary) and the development of more and more software that improves the collection thereof, generate headlines.

I remember, for a long time (personally I recall several stories about AMSTRAD/C64 games on tape), there was a serious suspicion of free-software and pirated software (for good reason). Anyone distributing free/boosted software was viewed with sceptism, how precisely did they benefit? Then came the internet and the mad race to use free software to download more and more free/pirated crap on computers... Personally I viewed the internet at the time the same way I'd view taking a "free" radio from a police officer to use for discussing criminal activity with people involved in the same, who were also using the same "free radios". Pine Gap and other major facilities really do check shitloads of data and the rest, they supposedly need warrants (but who's going to prove they did so and thereby prove the need for a warrant was breached?). Having access to immense amounts of data, that is presented in a well-formated manner that machines can be programmed to deal with very, very rapidly, is a major boon to the intelligence agencies (it would be very hard to automate opening letters, reading them, resealing and resending them). That is why I counsel very, very careful thought before advocating any more "freedom" of information on the internet, it is a two-way street, we can at best tweak big brothers nose while he can fuck us up completely.

* Various data only networks still use versions of this to process and send information from various processor units, ATM's & EFTPOS spring to mind.

lol yeah its been a strange evolution. But here, now, is a great time to be wanting to learn 8) fantastic libraries of information, lie, waiting to be found
Its an unprecedented development in our history for so many people, in so many places, to have access to whats there.

It has made a lot of people learn by "default" as to "what" they have, and are learning, is showing, in many ways. As to "where" we are headed, the writing on the wall, but I've seen it be wrong before! But I'm half prepared to be surprised, and I dont surprise too easily! I hope it is a pleasant surprise...

To think the web we are using is VERY young, 15 years at best, is astonishing,  IF various issues are somehow resolved, and life go's on half peacefully, what will 15 years down the track be like?

The BIG variable here, are the people who use the net...

Back in  '86 I had a good mate who worked at the CSIRO at the time, as a coder, and we went one night out to his work, and that was the first time I ever saw a dedicated landline, which as you say, was connected to about IIRC 20 od computers around the world.

Now, well, I assume that ALL my electronic communications HAVE been recorded, I guess its just a question of what I say I, and where I say it...I take certain precautions, BUT, I've been stitched up by LE in the past, whether I "did" or "didn't' actually DO what was alledged, became irrelevant, and holidays were had ???

At this point in time, I'm not really sure I care too much, but, after all, if I wish to have a ph etc, I'm ALREADY tagged, they've definitely "got my number"  :o

IF I become "interesting enough" maybe I'll draw some heat...

I'd like to think they'd find me very boring :)

A merry solstice season folks 8)
