Of course it's more convenient to measure-out your dose by volume,forget crystals!
Some solvent won't hurt you! If you are paranoid just
leave water+MDxx.citrate+solvent traces mix on hotplate (low temp) few hours
on hotplate and all slovent will evaporate. It's plain logic!
Don't bother with MDMA.HCl like that,there is another way,much simpler.
You can dissolve MDMA.HCl in some water,neutralize with NaOH until pH 7-8,
add excessive amount of citric acid in that and just drink it!
Effect will be same since you will have water solution of table salt,MDMA.HCl and citric acid.
Next time use freebase for citrate as soon as you make it.

I know that leaving it out would evap the solvent traces, that was what I was saying too. We're saying the same thing. But I was being silly too talking about solvent (duh). I was looking for a way to just do it in the kitchen and be able to divide off a couple of doses from the whole converted batch. Your suggestion sounds fine.
