The other day I stumbled upon the DEA site, and the section where they list the prosecutions of doctors who have been busted doing various things, particularly the 'inappropriate prescriptions', (for several reasons-e.g. there were doctors, who had worked for online drug providers, writing thousands of scripts to people they had never seen, they only read a questionnaire filled out by the customers..) 
But what really surprised me was that most of the sentences of more than 10 years, were given to men over the age of 60yo!!! I mean, these guys were getting 20 and 30+ year sentences!!! Die in prison type sentences
....and yet other people who had done similar or worse in the 'same type of offense', i.e. "prescribe a schedule 1 drug, namely, Oxycontin to someone, who was not a legitimate patient, and without proper consultation,and/or, for financial gain", like the above mentioned "internet doctors" were getting maximum, 3-4years, often 'home detention' for a year, and then probation, sometimes only a suspended sentence 
..!!!
I tried to see if the difference was due to the charges being laid in different states, but this wasn't the case, the ONLY thing 'in common', I could see they had was the age of the practitioners...hmmmmm??? go figure
Man the legal system in the USA sure has me puzzled, I mean take the "Innocence Project" where a group of law student have gone back to many old crimes where DNA testing has a good chance of "proving" the case, one way or another.
So far IIRC they have 'cleared' OVER 200 prisoners, many of whom were on death row!!!
It seems to me, that a country, with 4% of the worlds population, and 25% of the worlds prisoners, and yet has, NO DECENT Affordable, HEALTH CARE, for its people: for one thing, it has some HIGHLY POWERFUL people involved in making a buck out of the "Prison ('Business Model') SYSTEM"
One of the BIGGEST PROBLEMS I see our world is facing, is "How can we get companies that produce 'Anti-Human' products, such as land mines, and other weapons, whose ONLY reason for being made, is to equip armies, (or anyone who can pay!!) so that they can go and kill people...
as long as we live in a world where this type of behavior is "acceptable" we will continued to "be controlled" by the people who try to keep the masses scared, so that 'they' can 'offer protection', which for the "average joe" is preferable to "a Red under the bed" or its equivalent!!!
Becoz it suits the "others" in power, who wish to keep the public scared, and "Feeling the NEED" for, and "WANTING" the "Protection" provided by the Government's of the day, firstly through the local Police Forces, (and all the 'associated forces,, such as the, "Alphabet armies of the FBI, CIA, DOD, NSA etc) and then the Army of your own country, together with its "friends" , which does provide a GREAT sense of 'security' for many people, no matter how 'vulnerable' these defenses, 'really' are!!!
And as a direct result, we then 'require' facilities for processing and holding the people who have "been detained" by the so called "Law Enforcement" agencies, which as can be seen in the United States, owning a prison or two, and 'leasing the serrvices' to the government, IS a HIGHLY PROFITABLE BUSINESS....!!!
So the NEXT question that NEEDS an answer is, "how do you get people who make LOTS of $$$ from running prisons, be 'happy', or at least not too pissed off, IF, the laws were changed, which resulted in LESS (hopefully LOTS less) prisoners going into the system, ergo sum: less bucks for the Co's.............how do you ask someone to stop doing something that makes them LOTS of money, and who also use the excuse "its the best thing for the shareholders" whenever justifying some totally fucked up action, or lack of, by said Co's.
I REALLY wish I knew, coz in my eyes, things are going to get worse before they get better, if the "Old ways" are maintained.....
Look at what happened when the "Free Markets" idea of International money trading went 'feral' and started doing TOTALLY unethical things, and the results of which NEARLY brought the WORLD TO ITS KNEES!!!
Thank fuck Barack Gobama and his crew were at the helm....if George W had been President, things right now, would be VERY different for ALL of us!!!
Man just have a look at what happened to Iceland and you can see what ALMOST occurred around the WORLD.....it was a MUCH 'closer call' than most people realize!!!!
We DESPERATELY need 'new' ideas for 'old' problems....."necessity is the mother of invention", after all, and this forum is filled with folks who have learned there are 'many paths to the same place'.....maybee someone has some 'out there' ideas, that are not 'as silly' as they think.......I'm "all ears"
