Its had most of the genes involved in tumor formation removed but it can still infect things. You put a plasmid in it with your gene of interest in it between a left and right boarder of the T-DNA which is then inserted into the plant genome randomly. its actually Agrobacterium tumefaciens.
I see, that is what I thought might have been the case. It is a shame that your strain is so hard to get, since it obviously can't be isolated from the wild it needs to be had via university.
Is it at all regulated? Since it doesn't have the tumor gene in it, I bet that it is not.
