Organic Chemistry Laboratory Topics: Steam Baths

Steam baths are used whenever possible to heat solvents quickly and safely. Since they only produce temperatures up to 100°C, their use is somewhat limited.

Rings can be removed from the top of the steam bath as necessary to allow more efficient heating by placing a container deeper in the steam bath.

The steam itself is accessed in the area above the sinks at the lab benches:

When first turned on, the steam might come out as hot water for awhile until the steam gets to the outlet.
