Hello everyone

Hey I just joined the site and I thought I would say hello to everyone. I am new at this kind of thing and I might be asking many dumb questions (i will try not too). Anyway I hope I will be able to get my wings within 6 months. I guess I have a lot of reading to do. Oh are there many ppl here from Canada?

Good to see you have an interest in this sort of thing, we can use as many members as we can get. Just one request: use google or our search engine (TFSE) religiously, and before asking a question that may have already been answered. If you can adhere to that, we'll be off to a great start.

that very unfriendly member is me and well, bugs, i have no reason at all to be unfriendly, i just am. i came here to cause major trouble and have my ass torn apart by our dear i_a. he's very good at it. but sadly, not at chemistry Sad

oh well and do your best and conceal your origin, dear i_a has failed to do so and since him and me are involved in a very, very disrespectable case it would have been advisable to stay anonymous...

I haven't forgotten about your numerous contributions, and for that, I thank you. You put in an amazing amout of effort here, and I hate to see members with so much to offer get in the position you are now. I just want to make it clear that my responsibility within this board lies in making sure that threads do not degenerate into useless competition between fellow users. I have a desire to make this place as wonderful as possible, and if that means taking steps against those who encroach upon it, whoever they may be, then so be it.

Primathon: Why don't you just delete the useless posts from all of the threads. There were numerous posts on the hive that were simply deleted or revised to say only "rated as offending". Surely if the posts were deleted soon after they were posted, the participating members would get tired of typing them up. I'm not specifying anyone; I am sure everyone has been in a heated battle/fight/fuss at some point in time.

I really liked this place because people could post when they had a question in their mind... without being "flamed" or sh*t on. I just don't understand why this has gone on for so long. Everytime I try to read a new post it has been cluttered with this childishness.

Mods: Please delete the nonsense, if possible. I'm not pointing the finger at anyone. I realize that things can get out of hand. Now, the problem is that when I try to read an old thread, it is half cluttered up with fighting. Please, just let it go.

Indole: I have really appreciated your comments in the past. I really hope you continue to post valuable information in the future.

Most times it's tough to draw the line between deleting offensive posts and preserving the users freedom of speech (which here, of all places, should be held in the highest regard). Posts which simply say the equivalent of "you suck" should, and do, get the axe - but if somebody posts relevant information along with a bit of "you're an asshole", then the situation becomes unclear. Do I edit out the offensive bits? If it's simply one user attacking another, then yes. If it is thought out, intelligent, and provdies constructive criticism, then no. The situation is rarely this cut-and-dry, though.

Personally, I tend to err on the side of letting users say whatever they want to say, but seriously, there is a limit. I have to at least try to keep this place in order.
