Lava Lamp Base

| swim's gotta use a lava lamp for a HI reaction, the problem is the base of the lamp flask is flat... swims would like to try a small reaction first so that if there's a balls up, not to much precursor will be wasted, its a 25W Lava Lamp, swim would like to try a 3 grammer first off, any suggestions? maybe the Lamp base is not adequate? cheers |

| never done it myself with a Lava lamp..but a 25W is good for up to a 10grams reaction...according to the theory...for 3g it should do the job... |

| yeah, apparently the heat is sufficient, just wondering bout the base though |

| also, could a hose connected to the top of the lamp flask (2ft length) with a balloon taped to the end work? has anyone tried? its not exactly condensing quality but fuck, i gotta use what i got, just worried that the gas it emits might eat through the hose/balloon, thanks |

| ffs.. the lamp only heats water up to 54 C!, how the fuck is that meant to complete a rxn? (25W) |

90 Celsius is sufficient however you want a temp of slightly over 100
Celsius inside flask, anywhere from 90-120 is fine though, lower the
temp the longer the cook time needed.
some people have tried it and report good results...this is wet reaction .
.for small reactions like this I like to do a semi dry reaction using a few drops of oxigen peroxide instead of water... |

| yeah, 54 wont cut it though, or would it? swim doubts it, not from what swims read, might try a 30W'er, its only for a 3grammer, so hopefully |

| No, 54 C would not do the reduction in a timely manner, if at all. As amenselah stated, over 100C is preferred for a wet reflux (LWR). For faster drier reactions, most prefer higher temperatures. |

Well one can achief higher tmps by panting the bottom of the glassflask with
heat resistent black colour ( thick ) or cover it with alufoil , so no more energy is unused and goes just through the glass heating the water ... to some extent
but the lavalamp is constructed to heat hup to a certain levl and keep this for
any longer time it stands in a room with same tmp and humidity , when doing
wet reds only the bottom of the flask is covered with more heat absorbing chemicals than water ... |

Should work too as long as it is thick enough , just try it
Since alufoil is everywhere avaialble its the stuff of choice .. |

| swim put just a little amount of water into the lamp flask, then tested the temp after a couple of hours, went up to 80.1C this time |

hmm still not good enough , for fast and sufficent reduction od the
pseudo , i think a complete reduction could be achieved but it would take a least 2 days , try gettin a better lamp( not a completely new one just the lamp ) ( 25 is is not that good have one myselfe but gets to 98 ° ) with 30 -45 watts that fits in ur lavalamp and provides enough heat ... |

| swim will have too, as the insulation from tin foil reduced heat, swim mustve fucked up somewhere because its been said to increase heat, this is not the case, |
