I posted many of the experiments on the discussed reaction and the use of N-methylalanine with benzaldehyde yielded ephedrine.....it was with the alanine that a mixture of products was the result , including in them phenylpropanolamine, unfortunaely the sit at the "translation wanted folder" in the reference section without any further clues save some summary in english and the chemical diagrams......we need to find a way to translate the documents as I feel there is gold there..............java

Well... as Bumblebee stated above they started with l-alanine and then reduced it via HI/RP and the bioassay was obviously good. So, SWIDP will go with that… hands-on experience before literature. Wink
