You need a fucking lot of conc. H2SO4 and you have to repeat the process thats all. Because thats how its done in industry - multistage with H2SO4 regeneration etc. Or better WAS done, as nowadays extraction methods are used to concentrate acetic acid.
I remind you wanted to start with VINEGAR.
Acetic acid binds water considerably stronger than HCl does. He, he considerably is a joke in reality.
As quoted from lugh:
"educate yourself in chemistry before..."
How true.

Sure - a big excess of H2SO4, a long vigreux and an additional H2SO4 bubbler would be needed (and maybe freezing) to get real GAA; but sulfuric is so cheap that I would never attempt to recycle it.
Besides, I did just say that dripping vinegar OR 60% acetic into H2SO4 98% would make a high concentration acetic acid upon distillation, and that it would be a large scale industrial method, didn't I?
Why does it work with peracetic? Educate me!

| In all scandinavia H2SO4 with more than 14% is hard to get and the 14% battery acid is not cheap. |

*yuck* I once read somewhere that the degree of industrialization of a country can be measured in tonnes of sulfuric consumed per year...
...now this can't be, since sweden is very industrialized (they produce lots of oil offshore, not easy without heavy industry around)..
must have something to do with their volvo's batteries working best with 14% sulfuric or sumthin like that...
(and just in case I don't live in scandinavia; maybe drying acetic with H2SO4 is a good option for me then?)
