PSY420, THANK YOU!!!! That's exactly the thread I was looking for. If this was from a more recent update to the hive files than when I last searched, then I can live with it... otherwise, I'm gonna have to kick myself for missing it!!

As to the nitrosophenol formylation, I have seen it. As always, though, availability of reagents is a question. For someone without convenient access to phenol and a nitrite, the alternative may be more attractive for that simple reason. Either way looks simple enough!
