magnesium dust in grignard?

would it be possible to use coarse grade magnesium dust from a fireworks supplier in making grignard reagents.  Maybe you would have to wash it first, and add the ether/halobenzene really slowly.

Yes. Wash with 1 M HCl, then with alcohol, and finally with ether before using it.
