benzophenone synthesis

Earlier this year (in a reply to a posting) a synthetic pathway for thiophenethylamines was suggested using benzophenone and sodium thiosulphate, followed by a claisen alkylation. Does anyone know the particular reference to this reaction?  :)

Could you supply us with a link to the discussion in question? I believe that it wasn't benzophenone, but rather an addition of thiosulphate to benzoquinone (just like in the Pihkal preparation of 2C-T).

your right, of course- I did mean benzoquinone. I tried the synthesis in PIKAL, but the syrup-like residual did not "slowly form crystals" as written. I'm not sure how any matter that thick could crystallize. Any suggestions? :-[

Me neither, no crystals here. Perhaps high-vacuum out solvents thoroughly?
