SWIM was dreaming last night and found a source of iodine which sells USP and ACS for under $20/lb. The only problem to  my dream is that I did not know if they were in crystal form, and couldn't think of a good way to ask the supplier. Any suggestions?

Rhodium

If it is USP or ACS grade, then it definitely is in its crystalline form.

From everything I've read, ACS is the highest grade you can get. USP is third in purity, after Reagent.

Either the seller has boosted the I2 and wants to dump it at any cost, or else you are walking into a trap (stingo) my friend. $20 USD a pound is far too cheap to be a legit source. Is cheese right or wrong, cheese wouldn't go near that offer with a 100 foot pole. But this game is full of chance taking isn't it. That's why cheese prefers never to participate in shit. :)  Hey Rhodium, is Iodine always a possible substitute chem for Bromine? (TSII)

Wrong, swims seen it around for 43 bucks a kg.

Isn't the grade a measurement of how often it is checked under QC? Granted the guidelines may be stricter, but for our purposes, wouldn't Technical to Reagent suffice?

Cheese: No, bromine and iodine are not universally interchangeable, although it is in some instances.
