After looking at the information that I have posted recently, I can only think of one method to clean.
1. Dissolve the pills in ethanol.
2. Collect the pfed and gak after evap. and wash with any solvent that will not dissolve the pfed, like acetone.  Try to pick the most polar sovent.
3. Do a a/b reaction with Toulene, and evap. or distill, and collect freebase, and remaing gak.
4.  Wash again with the most polar solvent that won't dissolve the freebase p-fed.

Note:  After collecting the pfed in step 1, pick a nice solvent that is polar, and mix and decant, and evap, to see the progress of gak that is being removed.  Try different ones untill one seems to really love the gak.
Note2:  I will try to do all reactions with long times, and in the freebase form.

hey addkid, just out of curiosity did you pick ethanol for a specific reason and also what's the reason for using only the freebase in reactions?

SHORTY

When pulling with alcohol i have found that ethanol is the best one to use.  However, that was back when pills had less gaak to deal with.  AddKids method will not work on the pills i use now though.

The ethanol is just the first pull to get the crude product out, there will still be plenty of work to do. I am pretty sure that ethanol is less polar then methanol, which may keep some of the gak away.

Do you recall what percentage your ethanol was, by volume?
Swim currently gets 85% ethanol from his still, but estimates that by modifying his reflux condensor and adjusting the rate of reflux, he could obtain 91-95% on a good day. Ethanol is generally for drinking, but swim may try and substitute ethanol for turps, who knows!

Just buy everclear, 95%. I will shortly post a New extracting method. Keep checking back.
