Mr. Clean's birch

I was wondering if anyone would liek to add anything to Mr. Clean's birch. It is the method used by SWIM and his friends, but he hears that shortcuts have been made since 2000 when it was written. Are any of these worthwhile, or should SWIM just stick to Clean's method?
