does it matter if Sodium Chromate is used as opposed to the Dichromate salt? I'm not completely familiar with the mechanism for which the Dichromate is needed so I thought I'd better ask.

Im not familiar with such synths but I assume that the dichromate is used as an oxidising agent. The dichromate is a stonger oxidising agent than chromate and im not sure if chromate would even work.. remember that it neednt be sodium dichromate- any compound with the dichromate (VI) ion should work.
