No Sedit,it's a simple trick question. Tail part is there to confuse you.
If you have "normal" room with 4 corners and each casts stays in one corner facing room(not wall)
and facing other 3 cats that stay in other 3 corners.

It's question like: "Plane full of refuges crashes on the border of 2 neutral states,where will the wounded ones be burried?"

If I understand correctly your suggesting the answer is basicly 4. The cats tail information does not concern me but what throws me off is the opposite part. I think of the single corner across the room as opposite and dont really consider the other two corners to fit that description however it is possible thats what they where getting at and there is really only 4 cats.

`How many cats are in a small room if in each of the four corners a cat is sitting, and opposite each cat there sit three cats, and at each cat's tail a cat is sitting ?

"how small is small ( i,e. ! square meter...10square meters?.....and how big are the 'cats'

 And as suggested, said pussies just might well be sitting on their own tails

 Without more 'specific' parameters....I would be inclined to agree with waspman

   OK.......a person is lost in a jungle where ONLY  two Tribes live..this is know as a fact---also is known as

    a "fact" that one of these tribes ALWAYS tells the TRUTH,, while the 'other' Tribe,  ALWAYS LIE......and

another FACT about these tribes, is there are NO physical variants between them,,in speech,clothing etc,,

 leaving our explorer with very little to go by,,to decide which mob is which......

 Now, our intrepid adventurer has become lost... and arrives at a fork in the road,, one direction IS the

ways he needs to get home,,whereas the 'other/wrong' direction, will take him to certain peril.....

      He speaks the locals language, (which is the same for both tribes) SO,,the problem is....

  "how to find out which way to go?"

  There is primarily one "simple" answer to this problem,,which ALWAYS WORKS.....

  There are some 'other' more complex/inelegant answers,,but here,, the simple one is wanted---However ANY answers that "definitely" provide the 'correct' answers are welcome....

   This is an easy one ;)

Time: 11:57pm
Blah Blah... ill post if needed.....

Time:12:08

You ask both tribes the right and wrong way as well if the other tribe is lying and see where it gets messed up.

t1.q2.a=left
t2.q2.a=right

t1.q2.a = yes
t2.q2.a = yes

t1.q3.a =
t2.q3.a =

Q1= Left or right.
Q2= Is Tx lying
Q3 = are you lying
T = tribe
Q = question
A = answer

Before I even finish attempting this a quick review of the question brings a problem.

You make no distinction between T1 and T2 meaning that there is no way to tell who is right. IE: He finds his way home by asking the truthful tribes people regardless of whom they may be.

Correct....the question/methods works equally with either/both tribes-I'll give you and obscure hint,,its a bit like an A/B "extraction"--pardon

Great because I started to work  the question out logically and a few minutes into it I found logic break down because there was no difference between Tribe 1 and tribe two. I honestly didn't even know if it was the correct answer at that point, I thought it was possible that the question was worded wrong or a part was missing.

 its one of "those answers" that while a part of you is going "thats so cool!!".. amother part is saying  "I shoulda figured that out' and feeling like an idiot for not seeing the "wonderful logic in it and the way it had been used" I didnt 'get it the first time- I had to be told, but eh? I learned yeah? Isnt that what this crazy carnival we call 'life on planet earth' is ALL about? Learning???

   OK folks,  enough of this dillydallying around, I'd forgotten about this post until iI looked at the 'recent posts' and this one was there, :)

   Now I truly "forgot" I had even READ this topic, Let Alone, Posted in it!!! :o

  BUT, being in the "mood" with a bit o 018 'blend', I see this thread "As New to Me" and tried the Q's.........

  I went Oerlikons way-(which I noticed when I read the thread "UNREMEBERINGLY AGAIN!")- there was NO caveat (utfse) about "how many processes,i.e. How many times You could ,say "multiply", a number,,

      --the caveat/rule/condition was that you ONLY use EACH NUMBA ONCE......so...it took me a min to "get the right software running" in my "wetware" and in a total of 6 mins I came up with, becoz, it was 'suddenly!'
 " SO obvious A Route to my Destination",which was ALL I was after............

   ((looking for the honey,,which changes from day to day depending upon ones Requirements on that day! and, which on this post means Anything that "Furthers the Cause", and "Shares the Love"..for those who Might "Follow in YOUR Footsteps--so give GOOD advice,,and this forum will be seen as "FAR from a problem" compared to 'other types of Internet based Crime going On,,we're WAY down The List! 8)..oops I swerved a bit off topic. :P))

   If this forum is Primarily for These Reasons, and The Members, "Realise, US/WE/THEY Make this Forum either "Informative or threatening ",,Low key OR High Profile, by the Manner in which we "Choose" to Discuss whatever...

                  6x4+(3x0)+(1x0)=24
I believe this conforms to the "Rules/Conditions"......No? However then I wondered if "Because 'zero' in itself isnt a number,Maybe I am taking 'for granted' its allowed, becoz the semantic ambiguities of the English/american/? language spoken here in the vesp, has its Own Distinct Flavors, from our WWW "club"

   Three cheers for Vesp,Goddd work mate ;) 8)
   The 'quality and Originality' have Developed Well, in this Forum, Good Mods, Good Members, and I'm enjoying coming here 8)
 Lots of cool People-Humans being,,I LIKE IT ;D

  But the Q's are good but, Too fuckin easy!!! And NoThanx Oerlikon old mate,, I think i'll Pass on that Kilopage mindfuck you mentioned--Keep up ur Analysis matey,thats where you're Needed-like the 'impurity' post etc.

     If the "program IS abstract enough",, which is something, we humans DO So WELL!!,, and the BEST Computa's "work a LOT harder",, to get the same 'result' as humans can,, with an "abstract question", which includes a, "maybe if" functional(but not yet!) group!!!",, than 'we humans do!' Due to our "ability to draw on the most sophisticated database In The WORLD,, our brains/minds ability to be "illogically logical"-kinda "Quantum Thinking".....

Next Q?
            Duh,.... "FOUR!",.....C'mon what ELSE can 'It' be, with "those specific conditions",, Kids stuff....

OK.....NOW we're Starting to get a touch trickier,we'll say, and,,we got a bit more serious, but really 'nothing really ANY 'more difficult', just different...

"Same shit,But a Different type of shovel,basically")  (as can be org chem) with the question of the two tribes.......

 AND NOT ONE 1 of you bunch of geniuii(? tsog, a little help here? ;D ?) had a fuckin clue.....
 well here's the ANSWER...  ::) Enjoy mi amigos

    "ASK EITHER  of the dudes,, which way would the Other Guy would tell me to GO?",... and then Proceed in the direction of the OPPOSITE track EITHER guy tells you to take!!!  :o  Think about it. And Sedit do yor Equation now and add these factors, and Bingo...

  Hey Sedit,   I hate to 'dis', (in a way ;) the A for effort you put into your "Logical Breakdown"),,which was most concise and yet elegant. And the aspect of No 'Specific way to 'Identify the tribes' IS intentional, for as you can see, thee "solution just cuts straight through the GAAK's to "The Way Home" ;D

     but, here It one of those "perfect examples" of "Reverse Logic" , and BTW its 'styles and methods of thinking, segues 'well', with OTC org chem," like its a lubed ground glass joint"..IT fits easily and well 8)

 Cheers me Bruzzers

Once you attempt to assign variable values to the tribes it soon became obvious that there was no distinction since it would have become impossible to tell variable A and variable B apart. A=B was quickly realized well before I finished breaking it down.
