This forum is not over moderated, if anything the opposite. The Vespiary allows many members latitude they might not find elsewhere. I enjoy poking my head in here from time to time. 8)

Has anyone been in touch with ZZ` to explain this hiccup?

Despite his harsh, emotion charged post, it sure would be a shame to lose him over something like this. Never  hesitated in offering a helping hand.

I think we have a great mix of personalities amongst the Mods here. A good balance of styles etc. Quite tolerant as a rule.

Keep it up guys.

Not only was that his last post, but when he was last active... *facepalm*

If he posts on another forum, someone should let him know it was all an accident/misunderstanding?

I don't know if I can agree with the notion that a board is entirely the private property of the one funding it. People contribute in different ways, but ultimately it all boils down to contributing their time: either at a place of employment, or doing research and posting it on this board. A community really is the property of the community, IMO, even though the administrators have control over it. From my time lurking here, Vesp seems to understand this well and this thread itself is proof in itself of this. Hats off to Vesp.

I also agree it isn't entirely my property. I fully intend to release most of the site as an HTML archive and the files as a torrent/other at some point when I am no longer able to administer it along with giving it to someone else that I think is capable of administering it who  has  the same/similar ideals, values and views on the forum as I do.  That isn't happening any time soon, however.

Interestingly enough, all of the people I've had in mind to take control of it at some point have left this forum for various legal reasons they've ran into. So that is concerning since the people I choose as "best candidates" seem to all have a decent problem when it comes to running this site for the long term.

The only people that should be running sites like this are ones who don't fuck around. Too much risk of the database getting seized by the cops...

When you don't have a rowdy crowd there is no need for moderating :)

I however have NEVER seen a board go under due to harsh mods. I have however seen sites like RS thrive due to the fact that they bitch slapped people around for worthless post faster then you could blink. Without that it would have no doubt become a how to make acetone peroxide board same as how sites like this would become "how does me make meth" board. The harshness promoted research amongst members and discouraged lazy post.

There are plenty of members here who would not have lasted on RS and many many post that would have not lasted a day. If you feel we are harsh you haven't seen nothing compared to how it could and IMO should be.

I actually think you guys have found a much better style than was employed at RS. They actually drove away a lot of great contributors - Philou Zrealone comes to mind - with their harsh and aggressive words and neo-Nazi politics (good call to keep politics off this site, I know I can't keep my mouth shut and this community is too small to risk dividing it). Moderation needs to be firm and consistent, but being vicious and insulting kills the atmosphere. Again hats off to you all, this place is on the right track.

Yeah, its really tricky to figure out how to regulate but not be inhibitory to good content, or just cool/useful content.

It honestly seems like the better the content posted the less moderation is needed.  When we were at our prime - with Naf1, Doucherman, poisoninthestain, Palladium, and a few others all actively posting and sharing their results, experiences, and ideas, as well as other members all feeding off of each other, there wasn't many problems, also I feel that is the same when the ergot culturing/LSD from natural sources talk started to reach its prime.

I guess the saying "An idle mind is a devils workshop" applies to the forum as well? An idle forum is a devils workshop.

Anyways, I appreciate the compliments and stuff but I know this site still needs a lot of improvement. I'm not the *ideal* administrator but I do what I can/feel comfortable doing.
I wish I could up the security, and anonymity this site offers - even though I don't believe it is my responsibility. However, I'm not a server admin/programmer, hacker or anything like that so its pretty crippled when it comes to that sort of thing.

PS. I also wouldn't describe RS as thriving.. unless I missed it? It seemed like it had an inhibitory environment.

Rogue Science. It was an Explosives & Weapons forum that is coming back but vanished for some reason.

Are people saying the hive will be coming back? I've never heard that, but I have read things that kind of suggestive to it, or possibly the existence of an underground hive - though, I doubt both.
RS is actually showing some progress (sorta) so it will be interesting to see how it turns out a in a few years, I guess.

I see this continues to be a source of conversation here at the nest. Vesp, this place continues to be awesome. Though I have put my beakers down for the moment, I'll still always come here to troll :^)

"Ego is a structure that is erected by a neurotic individual who is a member of a neurotic culture against the facts of the matter. And culture, which we put on like an overcoat, is the collectivized consensus about what sort of neurotic behaviors are acceptable."
