Once again sedit I agree, although I feel/believe that the speed of light is NOT constant, and as you suggest, highly "relative" to the "enviroment it is travelling through.
Considering we "believe" that light IS 'bent' by gravity, even to the point of anihilation when it encounters a super massive gravitational source such as a "black hole"
As we on this planet have a fairly constant gravitational "field" I think, until we are able to observethe effects from an extra solar systems pov, we are only guessing, as surely what we experience in our own solar system is just that,,what "we experience" and not necessarily what might be experienced in say alpha centuari, or for that matter, in any/all parts of the universe who's "gravity" is 'caused' by something other than our own sun. After all, we DO NOT have any data to compare it with, and the universe IS a pretty big place!!!
