You're right about the war on drugs...
Assyl just can't bring himself to be harsh to someone who ends up in pain who has not brought pain upon another... if it was a particularly stupid way to put oneself in pain he may laugh, but the sympathy will still be there... there is no use to wasting one's breath blaming a victim, no matter how stupid they were, maybe using their story as a warning to others:

...but Assyl will always support them in the end. Nothing hurts more than being kicked when you're down, and forgotten when you're jailed. Yeah we can't save everyone, but we can at least keep our mouths shut if we get exasperated by the stupidity or recklessness, hard as it may sometimes be. No need to rub it in.
No tolerance here either for those who blame the drugs or their dealers when they get nailed, ultimately we are responsible for our own actions and drugs are no exception... though those who are addicted tend to have extenuating circumstances that led to such heavy use - relationship problems, PTSD, physical or emotional abuse, insufficiently treated pain problems, bipolar disorder, unipolar depression, anxiety and panic attacks, etc...
Ultimately it's all about standing together and not doing anything whatsoever that would aid the government in its sick and twisted cause... whether that be by biting one's lip when commenting on a news article, or clamping one's mouth shut when getting beaten with chairs in the interrogation room... Assyl will never do anything that would help them in the slightest way... even if that meant pissing on their flaming bodies after they got ejected from a head-on collision with a garbage truck.
