Not to detract from the main point of conversation, but I consider posts like Maus's post, odd. Devious or deviating, perhaps. But definitely definitely , goading.
If he were paying attention to the forum, he would not have said 'lame' (who uses this word to express negativity?) for this, in the confident manner he did.
I wish there was something I could do, to help Maus change his style of thinking.

propagate, yes. produce alkaloids, no.  PDA is used to grow cultures,  sabouraud agar is used for long term storage.  to produce alks you need at least a basic medium including C and N sources as well as phosphate.
