____Another source of I2 is purification
of water, there is a Y2K product marketed at some pool suppliers , and out
outdoors man, backpacking type places for purifying drinking water the price is
more expensive this way.

mix here, when purchasing the I2 from the feed/tackle store, ask the rep about
it quite casually. "My quarter horse has a big black rotten hole in its hoof,
the vet/farrier told me some iodine crystal packed in the thrush hole would burn
it out..How exactly do I apply it?" or something to the like. Reps have mundane
shitty jobs and a chance to impart some of their wisdom is always well received.
If you are walking in semi dumb up front chances are you won't be grilled

The straight iodine poultice is considered
out of date medicine, many now go with bleach solutions because there are
certain contraindications that can be suffered by the animal due to iodine
exposure.
If the sales rep mentions this it will be important that you say
the vet said the thrush is so
advanced if not treated right away and
drastically the animal could suffer lameness**

2. Tincture of iodine is iodide salts in alcohol, it is found in supermarkets in
small one(1) ounce bottles each bottle can generate a little over a gram of I2
the price has shot up from .60 cents to $1.80 / bottle. Tincture comes in 2% or
7%. There is supposed to be a 50% tincture at Albertsons. ____It is also
available at feed and tack stores in pints and gallons.

To convert tincture to
iodine crystal is not difficult, but is a messy
procedure.

Put it in a one gallon jug
__ 1 pint 7% tincture iodine
__ 3
pints of hydrogen peroxide
__ 4 oz of HCl
__ 1/2 cup of dH20
Shake it
up, let it sit for 20 minutes or so, and filter (pour contents through a
pantyhose)
Wring out fluids.
Then put iodine crystals in a glass jar,
re-wash with distilled water, by adding water to jar, cover, shake, pour off the
water into a filter, in case some crystals slip by.
Do the water bit about 4
times to clean the salts and chlorine off the crystals.
On the final water
wash, wash the iodine into a into a fresh filter, wring it out hard,
open up
filter roll into a dry filter wring out hard
put crystals in a dark place to
dry.
I2 is light sensitive and will degrade I2. When completely dry store in
light resistant container.
Use chem safe rubber gloves, and do outside.

*** Wear chemical
resistant gloves when working with iodine and be outside.
Simple disposable
latex gloves 30 pair for $5 works, or get a cool pair for $3
In an empty
one gallon jug add about 50 to 100 ml of 2% or 7% tincture.
Add a little HCl
about 4-5 ml (small capful)
Add H2O2 up to 1/3 of a pint, while mixing, look
for the iodide to clump up, indicating success.
Or it may show some crystal
formation on top or begin to give off a faint purple vapor
these signs
indicate it is close, you should wait and shake for a minute. see if it
clumps.
Add a little sodium Hypochlorite slowly and look for the clumping, if
the solution begins to clear
without clumping, you screwed up with too much
acid or too much chlorine.
The Sodium Hypochlorite is an oxidizer like the
peroxide. the only reason I use it it to
save on the more expensive peroxide.
So if it cleared with no clumping then discontinue
using the hypochlorite
until you are more familiar with the reaction. Use the peroxide instead
And
use less HCl. the complex you want to avoid is O-Cl-I which turns clear and
locks up
your Iodine. discard this and try again.
It will take a lot more
of peroxide about 2-3 times as much as the tincture, without the
hypochlorite
Once it has clumped, mix it well and wait a minute, so all
of it will clump,
perhaps add a bit more peroxide to be sure it all
turned.
You should have a clear yellow fluid, with masses of clumped I2
trying to sink
to the bottom. Pour this through your filter, rinse the jug
with water to get all
the crystals out
Mix up another small unit of
tincture and repeat, continue this cycle
until you have filled one or two
filters to the top with crystal iodine
Wash the crystals repeatedly with
water, wring out the filter papers and I2 very tight
Open the paper, transfer
the I2 ball to a clean dry filter papers and wring the shit
out of it, some
more, Place the I2 ball in an open glass container out of direct light
let
it dry for a few hours then seal it tight, do not use any metal in your
containers.
Providine, Betadyne, clinidyne, any Iodine containing povidone.
Removing the
iodine from povidone has not been totally perfected
Fractional distillation
seems to be the only, for sure method.
The only errors you can make here
are:
__Not rinsing the I2 enough with water to remove the chlorine and salts
from the tincture
__Not drying the I2 out enough and adding it too wet to
your reaction.
__If in doubt at all re-wash the iodine with distilled water
in a filter and wring out,
__Repeat the wash and wring 4 times, transfer to a
dry filter and give it hell
__The iodine is only very slightly soluble in
water, you lose very little washing with water. If it is not clean and dry you
can lose a lot more in a failed reaction.
There are three things you must
have to be successful in meth production
1. Clean pure dry Ephedrine.
2.
Clean pure dry Iodine
3. Clean pure dry Phosphorus
Without these three items in great condition, you aint gonna get shit to
work.
Don't even consider running the reaction, if you have a doubt about any
one of them It is best to hold off until you have corrected the flaw in the
chemical
I write from actual knowledge, of numerous fucked up batches. To
see a couple of hundred dollars in chems eat shit in front of you.
Talk
about a disappointment, especially if you have no stash
So do not get
fiendish and attempt a flawed batch, think first,before acting rashly
if in
doubt at all, hold off, correct the doubt then proceed
This is where 80% of
the failures arise from.

COLD FINGER 
The cold finger is used to sublimate from a
flask.
I have done this but not enough to be very proficient at it
It is
the way to purify your Iodine crystals The theory is that as iodine is heated it
skips from a solid to a gas
when cooled it returns from the gas directly back
to a solid.
Home method of sublimation
On a Visionware pie plate, place your pile of dry
Iodine crystals
Cover the pile of crystals with an inverted bowl or tall
glass container.
Heat up the pie plate until the dark purple glass floods the
inverted container
allow to cool and you can sweep or scrape off the crystals
from the inverted bowl

Here are some popular methods:
If it has not been waxed or damaged
run it through a screen and re-use
If it has not been waxed but is a little damaged
soak it in d-water,
filter, let it dry, sometimes this all that is needed
or
boil in
d-water,30 minutes ,let it dry
Waxed but otherwise OK
wash in
acetone, boil in water, dry
RP is waxed, trashed, and damaged
wash
it with acetone until the filtrate comes out clear
_ _ Soak in dilute
sulfuric for 10 minutes ,
_ _ Add HCl . for another ten minutes
_ _ boil
it in d-Water for 15 minutes and allow it
_ _ Dry, place in oven at 170
degrees F for an hour or until dry
_ _ That will wipe out the floating crap,
but your phosphorus will contain SO4 and Cl and will be unable to do much in the
HI RP reaction, Pour some HI through the RP this will revive some of the stuff.
Add it to a reaction with good RP and afterwards it will all be recharged Top of
