This idea orgininate from Worlocks post of "Afternoon Delight". SWIB ask him what pill work-up he used and then he went on to tell me that he fermented ephedra to biochemially produce his meth in the picture. I'm sure where are still drulling about that. Anyway SWIB just happened to have a half pound of powdered ephedra laying around (who doesn't) SWIB got himself a standard size cake pan and filled it up with the ephedra. Then SWIB poured DH20 on it and stirred it all in. SWIB said pee uu. What a raunchy smell. Next SWIB put by a heat duct in his basement and let sit overnight. The very next day SWIB went down to look at his project and found that it had thickened a bit, to about the texture of browny mix. Then SWIB was reading in the hive on the very same post, Superassman suggested that SWIB could aid the fermentation process by covering my cake pan (Thanks Superassman). So that is what SWIB did. He covered it with some alumuim foil and set it back up by the heat duct. The next day SWIB was very busy with his life and didn't have time to check his experiment. But today SWIB checks his cake pan and lo and behold there is some progress already after four days. There seems to be a fungus growing and floating on top of the still unevaporated water. There also is something that looks like mold growing on top of the fungus. How exciting Now
SWIB is getting a little excited that this might really work. I will
update my progress on a semi-daily basis or if something changes. If there
are any ideas or improvement to this experiment please post them. I am
open to any new ideas. I believe Worlock said this takes a two to three
weeks to totally ferment. So bare with me on the time
schedule.Bee all that you can Bee. "I feel the need,,,,the need for speed" |

although the imagination that fungi turn eph to gogo (btw why? swib don't see the price for the fungus, an oxidation would be understandable, the energie in an alc. molecule is higher than in the analog keton/aldehyd or acid (remember the production of vinegar). acid is impossible cause eph is an secondary alc, so a keton is lands end. but who knows there are so many strange things in the nature (eg: why is cocain produced in erytroxilum coca, opium in ....) i would not start w/ dh2o it is very hypotone in comparison to any cell... tap water is also a no go in most areas of the world (chlorine,...). either make a isotonic solution yourself with aq dest., salts.... or ask mother nature --> rain water (as long as you dont collect it in the neighborhood of an coal power plant, industry site etc.) once you 'infected' your ephedra sealing it air tight is a nice idea: 1.if the fungus (whatever it is does anybody know more details?) has O2 in masses *it maybe destruct* your goodies (remember sugar + fungus --> alcohol BUT sugar + fungus + O2 --> CO2 + H2O) 2.contamination with aerob/anaerob 'mikroorganisms' will defenitely lead to unwanted side products (you don't want to make penicilline via penecillium notatum, do you?) what extraction method are you heading for? same as for ephedrine out of ephedra? steaming or solvent/ a/b xtraction? one last point: if you use the enzyme supported in-vivo production of gogo, wouldn't it be a lot easier to mix a solution with eph., some sugars and salts and use this 'clear solution' instead of using the whole plant? per aspera ad astra |

I can not answer all your questions, some are just over my head, but I will cut and paste the exact reply Worlock gave me. Here it is. "But they did ferment it, they fermented everything. On the Ephedra plant there is a fungus that does the reduction/hydrogenation. It is a simple thing for an enzyme system to replace an {OH} with an {H}. Fungi been making drugs long before man began cultivating Ephedra and selectively growing the species that lived symbioticly with a magic fungus . The cavemen carried Ephedra with them when migrating that is why it is cosmopolitan. Grind it up, ferment it, keep it wet , but don't drown it or it makes a laughing juice, keep it warm, let the fungus grow a week or two, also breaks down the remaining cell walls. They then boiled it in water and ran it through a sand filter, to extract the Meth and ephedrine. Optically active too." "I feel the need,,,,the need for speed" |

Give it up. Fermenting and reducing are two different things. τΏτ |
