In the meantime, my knowledge is always available to you for the taking.
Many others have tried only to realize that I am still 2.5 steps ahead. Since I never stop advancing , must do triple time to win.
It is a friendly and very useful competition, I enjoy it.

RED CABBAGE

I have made lots of good stuff using home made red cabbage paper, the cabbage has a fantastic pH range with colors red, purple, blue, green , and yellow.
For pH in the acid range I would get ballpark reading with red cabbage , then use pool pH strips (cut in half to conserve) to fine tune the range. the pool strips have 3 indicators/strip
1 is chlorine which is helpful sorta, another is
total alkalinity which in this case will measure how much speed still needs to be neutralized, and then
the pH which only gives a reading between the range of 6.0 and 8.4 so it is useless in alkaline, but in the acid range you can achieve an accuracy of +-0.2,
the red cabbage is like +- 0.5 in some regions and +- 1.0 in others
A pH meter is +-0.1 in almost the whole range

LYE LOCK or NOT

Many bees were complaining about what they called "lye lock" the pH reading would go up to pH 11.5, then freeze adding more lye would have no effect or actually create a lower pH reading.
What was happening was at pH 11.5 so much speed was becoming oil soluble it was coating the electrodes on their meter and they could not get a reading even though they were taking a sample of the water layer. I checked it out and the actual pH at that point was usually over 12.8 and often over 13+.
All they had to do when the meter stuck at pH 11.5 was let it layer and separate, or even add water to dilute it. But the meter said add more lye, by adding more and more lye, the situation of TOO MUCH lye was inevitable, resulting in irreversible damage to the meth molecule. That is why I add the non polar first, it allows a good degree of fuckin up before the lye can burn up all the shit badly.
Actual lye lock occurs when shaking the -oil and water/lye solution-, a soap thing forms with many oil bubbles filled with lye solution, suddenly your solution this has the consistency of a gel, it last for only a few seconds, usually, but what a shock to see your liquid solution begin to layer then suddenly solidify into a gel.

Fresh Lye Solution

The biggest help is to always pre-mix a "fresh" lye solution at least 1/2 hour before using.
Lye powder is slow to dissolve meaning that, if used dry a 20 minute wait would be required before taking a reading, just so the shit is dissolved for sure, an unacceptable amount time to wait for a pH reading.
Also the dry lye gets very hot when it is dissolving in water, this is a because the stuff is "lye" a very powerful alkalizes, there is a shit load of energy coming off the hellacious ionic reaction occurring there, and that is not a safe place for a meth molecule to be anywhere near, I'm sure that adding dry lye ruins a lot of speed. Lye is so wicked, I prefer to get acid into a cut on my finger rather than lye, at least acid will wash off. Lye gets absorbed into your skin changes the blood pH, will make your joints stiff and sore, swell up your tissues.
Warm lye water or warm non-polar solvent tends to aid in moving the speed into the non polar. Once the meth is in the non-polar it is difficult to remove it back into the water solution . much much more shaking is needed when forcing the freebase into the water. Less is needed when making the freebase go into the oil , but it still needs a fair amount of shaking.

Accuracy

The longest for me is the acid pHing, it can take 30-45 minutes to get it on the nose without overshooting into too much acid, and the shaking is intense, When I first get down to the 7.0-8.0 range I want two readings in succession to be the same before I will continue. The reason is it sometimes takes a while for the acid to be fully used and the pH reading to stop fluctuating, also it gets any acid off the stopper or upper neck of the flask. So I want to begin the last fine tuning from a stable pH. I don't double check every reading just once when I go under 8.0.
Then when finished I will recheck the pH until I get stability from two successive pH readings. If you hit your low end ph and wrap it up, the pH can slip 0.5 units. When a couple more minutes will allow it be more accurate

Fresh lye Solution

Finally a fresh lye solution is made up each session because the solution left open dissolves all sorts of molecules from the air everything from hair spray to dog farts gets sucked up in it. I don't mind the dog farts but that hair spray is rank. .
Put 20 grams of dry lye in 100 ml of d-water, shake, let sit, shake again, let sit ,shake, sit,etc.
