Cheapest....water aspirator or use a freezer / fridge compressor. I just found a freezer compressor from a freezer that I thought went dead, but now it pulls 25mm HG. Costs=$10-$20
Best....rotary vane or other high-vacuum equipment. These pull excellent vacuums but are extremley expensive. The best vacuum pump would be one that is chemically resistant (teflon coated) and pulls a strong vacuum. These cost from $300-$1000, if your lucky you can get a rotary vane for about $100.
It all depends on your applications on what type of vacuum you need and how big your budget is!

there is a certian online auction place rymes with begay. there is always good vacume pums for sale new and used. if youare looking for a good pump look for something that pulls at least 20 torr.

ever made jewelry? ever done dental castings? there are oil pumps out there that will pull 29.9inHg for under 200$ new even some parellel diaphram pumps will get that low and some are solvent safe. keep looking, the auction site we all love (or hate as the case may be) will give you great info for brand names, also might be worth looking into refridgeration repair, some pumps there are perfect for what were all working for, also look at asperators dirt cheap and will work for just about everything
