Depending on where you are in this wonderful world, find yourself a bike store and buy a dry lubricant called "White Lightning"

It's the best stuff for lubrication and it almost lasts forever.

At a common automotive parts store, a product labeled "Refridgerant Oil", or something similar, can be found. Also may be called R-134a oil. Will work fine if you use a refridgerator compressor for your vacuum pump. The oil was in quarts not unlike quarts of engine oil.

All of the "Lab" vacuum pumps that I have seen state that you must use the manufacturers brand of oil, and that using other oils may damage the pump and void any warranty.

It is probably best to follow this advice.wink

If you have a brand new pump that comes with a warranty, you usually have to follow the manufacturer's recommendations EXACTLY, or said warranty will become null and void (which means using only the recommended pump oil). Just my 2 cents
