If idio is used then it will produce HI Correct. How could you go about extracting it. Will the post reaction A/B with NaOH convert the HI to NaI which could be extracted from the remaining polar mix with acetone after evaporation and saved for a later time. This reaction seems pretty efficent. |

"This reaction seems pretty efficent." I don't think it is. You'll get much better yields if you use an azide as the nucleophile, instead of ammonia or methylamine. All you need to do is reduce the safrole-azide with Mg or calcium. Total Synthesis 2 has all the info on this reaction that you need. The christian god hates your soul.
