grignards only work in ethers!

use THF, Et2O, or tert-butyl-ether... traces of water or any alcohol will inhibit the formation of the grignard reagent! so all your solvents must be dried over CaCl2 followed by Molecular Sieve or Na.

HCl is produced by dripping conc. sulfuric acid onto table salt or conc. muriatic acid. It must be dry because traces of water inhibit crystal formation, because the crystals would dissolve in water.

so use H2SO4 or CaCl2 to dry your HCl gas!

...and inform yourself about basic chemistry before you perform reactions...

also UTFSE

Thank you very much for your help.

And, Rhodium, I am sorry for putting you out in moving my thread to where it should be.

Crap! Now I've got bad karma.
