ppa from propenylbenzenes: on using methylstyrene | Bookmark | |||||

To my best knowledge propenylbenzene is also named methylstyrene, is methylstyrene (mixture of 3- and 4- isomer) the correct reagent to be used for the synthesis of Phenylpropanolamine? |

Methylstyrene doesn't come in any 3- or 4-isomers. beta-Methylstyrene is the same thing as Propenylbenzene, and this in turn comes in cis- and trans-form, any which is good for PPA synthesis. alpha-Methylstyrene is another thing altogether, and cannot be used. |

METHYLSTYRENE (MIXTURE OF 3-AND 4-ISOMER MERC8.22098.1000 This is directly copied from a merck catalogue, is it correct to asume this reagent is of no use for the synthesis of PPA ? |

is it correct to asume this reagent is of no use for the synthesis of PPA ? That would seem to be a correct assumption. Baseline Does Not Exist. |
