						As already posted and discussed styrene can be made into phenylacetic acid using sulfur and ammonium. SWIM is interested in other useful reactions with Styrene. 1. Anti-markovnikoff addition useing BH3 followed by H2O2 and NaOH. this should yield phenylethanol? which SWIM could then oxidize to phenylacetic acid right? 2. Chloroform and Sodium Hydroxide to add a dichlorocyclopropan ring off the phenyl. is there any way to make use of this? 3. Peracid oxidation of styrene. very similar to peracid oxidation if iso safrole but it is a ethene not a 2-propene. would a peracid perhaps yield an aldehyde from the ethene? 4. anti-markovnikoff useing HBr and hydrogen peroxide or UV ligh. Are any of these reactions useful? 1 and 4 have probably already been discussed. what can be done with 2 and 3?

						1: If you oxidize the trialkylborane with CrO3 instead of H2O2, you'll get the phenylacetic acid in one step.
