Here's a little secret I learned at the university library-
100g potassium or sodium iodate
100g potassium or sodium iodide
H2O
HCl acid
Dissolve the iodate in the water, then
add the iodide. The iodate is much less soluable, so it will take a
bit of stirring. When both are dissolved, add HCl acid dropwise
slowly until the solution begins to clear. Quickly filter with
vacuum, and wash until the washes are no longer acidic. If you add
ice, you won't lose as much I2 in vapor. Result: 110-130g
Oh yeah, after seperation you can
sometimes  recover more I2 by adding dilute NaOH solution
dropwise to the cleared solution.
Iodates and Iodides are available to
prevent radioactive Iodine poisoning from nuclear fallout. Check

You know the thought ran in my
mind when I was reading the measures of protection for a dirty bomb
exposure. There seems to be an abundant amount of this compound for
preventive measures in case of an exposure to radiation .....good
job......java
