whats the starting concentration of hypophosphorus acid using the method from
sodium hypophosphite
To a stirred solution of 717.8 g of a 32% hydrochloric acid solution in a
3-necked 2 liter flask was added 615.42 g of powdered sodium hypophosphite.
The temperature of the solution rose about 2° C. Water was removed from the
stirred reaction mixture by reduced pressure distillation at a temperature of
about 55°C ±7° C at a pressure of 44-72 mmHg until a hypophosphorous acid
concentration of about 80 wt% was obtained. After cooling to room
temperature, sodium chloride that had precipitated was filtered from the
reaction mixture. The filter cake was washed twice with 32 wt % hydrochloric
acid.
The recovered product contained 355.7 g of hypophosphorous acid. The analysis
showed that the product contained 0.9 wt% sodium, 3.2 wt% chloride, and 80.96
wt% hypophosphorus acid. Chloride ion was removed from hypophosphorous acid
using an ion-exchange column (height 221/4", diameter 11/8"). The
column was packed with Rohm and Haas Resin IRA-410 in the chloride form and
was regenerated using 5% NaOH.

Psytech, sodium salt is less watched than the acid? Or there is some way of
obtaining it from freely available chemicals? The acid is pretty expensive as
well: lately SWIM bought a 100 ml bottle of lab grade for something like 38€.
He told me that is requested rarely and he had to order it. Practically is
used exclusively for the Sandmeyer reaction of diazonium salts to replace the
N2 cation with a H atom, thus making possible obtaining a substituted fenil
whose orientation would be impossible with a SEAr direct reaction. That is to
say who orders that stuff operates in synthesis, and not elementary ones!
With red P is much easier hiding the real purpose, since it's more used, as
the catalyser in Hell-Volhardt-Zelinsky alpha alogenation, for example. All
pretty well known reactions, about which you can find a lot in literature,
that gives you a vast field to tell foolishness to the dealer.

Not to get to far of topic, but yes both hypophosphorus acid and sodium
hypophosphite are currently watched by the DEA's, so dont even think about
purchasing them. Hypophosphite was used for electroless nickel plating, they
now have other chems that do the job.Im just lucky because Pedro has
shitloads lying around, and he doesn't plate with it anymore

I tell you what, Psytech. When I'll go in retirement I want to leave my
moralistic family and leave for a long journey to Mexico, like an hippie of
30 yrs. ago, then in Bolivia, in La Paz. In spanish la paz means "the
peace", but in italian PAZZO mens crazy. So La Paz is the right place
for me. It takes 20 yrs. to go in retirement, but I am patient to wait all
this time, If I'll be still alive at the age. Thanks for the advice, anyway,
I'll keep it present. About hypo, I got a 100 ml lab grade bottle recently
and they wouldn't ask for my name, but in that shop I use to buy chems for
analyses as well, so they know my face and what I do officially, they just
don't know the secret side of my perverted chemical life. Plea to the
Webmaster: sorry for going out of topic, it won't happen any more. Mea culpa,

Psytech, what exactly are you asking? Swim had been using a modified
version of that exact process for a while. Swim will be happy to help,
but needs clarity of question.
BTW, "watched" means many things. Swim has found a limited
private supply of the sodium salt, and is guarding this source with his
life. Watched doesn't necessarily mean that every gram of a chem is
tracked to the person who bought it, 10 agents aren't put on the case to find
out what Johnny Student is doing every minute of every day, and a bust isn't
put on the schedule. If the threshhold is 500Kg, for instance, and you
buy 500g, you are probably all right (risk in everything illegal,
irregardless of the source). If you start having 100Kg drums dropped at
your Mom's house every other week, you are about to get shit upon.
Be cautious without paranoia, never fuck you friends over because they know
what you are, and don't get greedy!
