red
phos has three bonds to 3 iodines
because of this fact it can do 3 phudos
hypophospours acid has only 1 place that will take
on iodine and then convert phudo to iodioephedrine
in other words hypo and red p do exactly the same thing
except rp can do it 3 times before its used up
hypo can only do it once.
i guess if you used 2 of the 3 bonds on the reaction you would have hypo.
as far as the alumiun foil i dont know as those bubbles are hydrogen .
the 2nd reaction where the iodioephed reacts with HI
is done with HI as a gas.
to make the HI in the liquid a gas we boil the liquid
and in the boiling bubbles are steam and HI gas that
reacts with the iodioephed at the liquids surface that contacts the bubbles.
if your bubbles are smaller then for the same volume
of gas you have more surface area
ie: a cube 1 in by 1 in by 1 in has the volume of 1 cubic
in.
if and has 6 sides times 1 square in or 6 sq in's of surface area.
if you take that cube and cut it into 8 cubes
with 1/2 by 1/2 by 1/2 in sides
the volume is still the same 1 cubic in
but now the surface area is of each face 1/2 by 1/2 in
thats equal to 1/4 sq in's for each face so 1/4 sq in times 6 sides =6/4= 1
.5 sq in's per cube times 8 cubes = 12 sq in's
so cutting a big bubble into half size bubbles increases
the suface area 12 times.so making your flash boil with smaller bubbles will
increase the speed of that part of the reaction.
and this fact explains why pressure cookers dont speed things up.because they
raise the temp but they dont increase the amount of boiling.
adding boiling chips of small peices of glass will
help to creat smaller but more numerius bubbles
i think the alunium mite be helping but for a differnt
reasion as those bubbles are hydrogen not HI
but know this alumiun power as a reducer is 10 times stonger then phosphorous
ie aluminium does have the power to turn used up phosporous back into red
phos.
the problem with aluminium is it forms this very
stong oxide coating on its surface and that oxide coating prevents the aluminium
metel underneth from reacting
eg: when the oxide coating is removed aluminium will burn in plane water just
like sodium metel does.
mabie your alumiun has some of its oxide removed and is helping the hypo in
reducing
i know alumiun reacts with iodine forming AL-I3
and that stuff is very reactive ...I think i dont know al chemistry very well
i just thought of something when al reacts with acids
forming Hydrogen gas it does this by eating up water.
i also know that hypo will work better if its had some of its water removed
mabie the al is doing just that.
ie: generating hydrogen uses water leaving the hypo
more reactive.

I have
a couple of Questions if you have time i would appreciate it. Is this basicly
the same thing that happens with H3PO2 Rxn if it is then you have answered
neally every question i have ever had so thank you. The addition of aluminium
in small pieces is the reason this seems to make such a difference because of
the thousands of tiny bubbles that come off them. thank you for your time
