I dislike Christmas, and everytime I hear Christmas carols it depresses me, probably because of the adverts about drunk driving where they play carols over the footage.

I like the break from school, it'll give me a chance to revise, but christmas is crappy IMO. Thinking about it, maybe they should re-write How the Grinch stole christmas, and instead of stealing the toys and food, he can poison all the food. How can the villagers celebrate Christmas when they are all dead? And yes, I DO have the book... (along with a few other titles, such as green eggs and ham, etc etc).

Have a happy new year everyone, and remember the names of your loved ones (Smirnoff, Bacardi...)

Merry christmas everyone!

Christmas is different this year in the states, our economy fell through the floor so no one is really obsessing over commerciallism, unfortunatly that means our eceonomy fell even more.

Last week over 800,000 americans lost there jobs.

So this year I plan on spending it with the family, getting drunk on eggnog, and singing christmas carols out of key.

Dude, they really have drunk driving commericals were there are christmas carols playing?

Christmas always sucks for me since my father died on it.

http://theforum.virtualave.net/ubb/smilies/frown.gif

So to me, it seems like the world is celebrating that he's dead. I know that's not true, but that's what it feels like. FTW!

Plus the crass commercialism of what was originally a pagan holiday that has absolutely nothing to do with the birth of Christ, and everything to do with Madison Avenue marketing gimmicks...... http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/images/smilies/barf.gif

I much more prefer New Years because it's the perfect time to hook up with the drunk chicks. http://theforum.virtualave.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Christmas is a religious holiday. I'm not religious. But it is the busy time of year at work (ie, lots of overtime)which is great.

They have those drink driving ads in Oz as well. Often you don't realize you are watching one.

Scene 1: Happy Christmas scene, usually a family or office party. Everyone having a great time drinking and making merry.

Scene 2: Young couple with kid driving home laughing and talking. Without warning *WHAM* the car ploughs into the back of a truck. Blood everywhere. Wife is clearly dead, father severly injured. You can hear the baby crying in the background as the screen fades to black.

All set to a haunting solo recital of Silent Night.

They really arent mucking around when it comes to drink driving here.

I used to love christmas, presents, decorations and what not. Then one christmas I realised that christmas isn't about presents, (just like on the Grinch which I have unfortunately just watched:() it was about family and everyone being in a good mood/festive etc. Then my family split in half, so christmas doesn't really hold much for me. Although I do like the time off.

The only thing I'm really looking forward to this year is the new christmas special of Only Fools and Horses! Beeb1, xmas day, 9pm:)

I already had an intimate moment with Miss Smirnoff last night:)

There was an interesting competition ran over here a while ago, the winning scrooge got to spend christmas in a nuclear bunker!

Yes, Christmas is great. You're right the true meaning of Christmas has been seriously perverted somewhere along the line. I am religous, I guess, I don't go to church, but I consider myself Christain, however my thoughts would be considered far from moral, sex, alcohol, stealing, destroying, shooting killing, racism, o well, I can be a better person when I'm a lot older. I like getting gifts and being with like my like minded relatives and family.
Old Kiev vodka is much better than Smirnoff, it's made in Ukraine, somehow you can drink the a shit load of it, get drunk but not get a headache or hangover.
I love being off from school, and like freakin' hell I'm gonna study anything over a holiday, I'm blessed with a pretty good memory I don't take notes in class, and I don't study, or do homework at home, I get home from 7 hours of school and the last thing I want to do is more school work. I do homework in study hall periods.
And are you serious that they show blood on commercials, shit, here there is plenty of sexuality on TV, I don't mind, but God forbid they showed some violence!!

I don't consider myself any religion, that is I don;t believe in any "supreme diety" or "god" higher power or any of that shit. my famly just split into 3 parts and x-mas seems trivial. I guess the only reason I participate is free stuff, I spent around 5 bucks on everyone this x-mas so I can get a bunch of shitty stuff I can return for like 80 bucks. I believe my morals would be near non existant, it it benifits me without hurting me it's ok. all these religous people are telling me I will go to hell and blah blah blah, you should see a deeply religous person's face when they are trying to "save your soul" and you tell them to fuck off.

I don't like feeling obligated to buy people I don't like crap they don't need. Last year I noticed I tend to buy things for people that I want to use myself. That's when I realized I am just a cheap selfish bastard with no real concern for other people, that's why I am not buying anything for anybody anymore. Since I also loath the crass commercialism making me feel guilty about not buying their crap, I am steeling myself to be the big man, and to take the brave step where I do not expect, no, demand that no one else get me anything either. I don't like hypocracy.

Somebody has to make the first move, and since I could really care less if I get a serenity fountain or a pair of socks, it's really no great loss. All the stuff I really want is way to expensive for it to be handed to me as a gift.

There are 6 billion people on this planet, very few of which actually care about some guy named Jesus. I'll bet nearly everyone gets pressured to buy crap though. This then is the true meaning of christmas: we live in a capitalistic centered world, driven by marketing, which on 1 day of the year flaunts itself openly under the thin veil of religion.

"I was looking for God, but I found religion instead."

We do need it though, in some sick masochistic way. If nobody bought this crap there would no jobs, and no jobs means no money, no money means you can't buy anything.

My great irony of this christmas holiday is my new job of the moment. After being layed off my last 3 jobs due to the company going tits up finiancially, I have landed one where I process bankruptcies and delinquent accounts. The worse the economy gets, the longer I will have a job.

fifteen years ago at Christmas time they found out I had lungcancer (malicious sort) and I have been operated of it just after Christmas since that time Christmas for me is also not the same as before but it is a good to stand still by the fact that there are still some good people to and I think that these 2 Christmas days are the days to show them that you appreciate that , gifts don't has to be big or expensive it is only the gesture the value of it lies behind it
I am not religious and of origin Christmas
is a pagan celebration of the midwinter turn
(the shortest day is past and the longer days are coming)
for the one who said where the lights came from and the decoration of a fir tree well these old German pagan (Teutons) did this by there celebration of this midwinter turn
Anyway I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas
and a Happy and Healthy New year
:-)

I though the christmas tree tradition stemmed from king Nimrod of the old testament, it says that Nimrod knocked up some lady before he died, then, proving his "pagan power" he returned to her, leaving a full grown tree where a stump was as a sign.

Jesus was born in a cave in palestine, if it had been winter there would have been hundreds of goats in a barn.

Also the scripture defines the wisemen as "many", not 3.

Found the pictures while surfing around on some fetish site about girl-dogs http://assaultweb.net/ubb/icons/icon7.gif (don't ask).

As it is, I ate dinner with my room-mate and the cats and that was it. http://assaultweb.net/ubb/icons/icon10.gif

Though I do have something to be thankful for. The dentist came back early from wherever he went to so I'll be seeing him tommorrow morning. It's costing me literally every penny I've got, but it's worth it to get rid of the pain.

Oh, and more prescription narcs. http://assaultweb.net/ubb/icons/icon25.gif
