Greetings.

I'm interested in extracting more or less pure caffein from coffee. I've done some searching, but couldn't find anything niether on The Forum, nor on other narcotic related websites. My idea for extraction was to make some very strong coffee, then to filter out the floating coffee particles, and then to use fractional crystallization and filter out the crystals from the solution, or perhaps instead of this vaporise the solution, to dry the crystalls out. I've tried recrystallizing the caffeine from the solution, but without any success. Now, the books said caffeine is a stable white solid in the form of crystals. This is the info I was relying on. Anyway, could you help me out? Thank you.

Edit- why would you use fractional crystallization if you say the soloution can be vapourised? (fractional crystallization is used to remove impurities)

I can buy pure Caffine Pills(200mg/pill, about 100/bottle). A bottle cost just under $20CND.

I just see doing this as busy work and nothing more. Maybe I am mising the point.

Dude, I've bought caffeine by the pound for less than $15, so why would you want to waste your time extracting it? It's not good for much besides cutting dope, so it's not restricted and thus easily purchased.

And this is not a general chemistry forum. Try the Hive, they're into stuff like that.
