I know its used for water purification .I know where it can be bought by 500g for water butts. I was wondering why it is sold in chemists for which purposes i know of a few things it can be used for but they dont warrant it being sold in chemist.

This is a stupid post. It is used as a fungicide for feet.

This isn't a stupid post IMO, it's a good idea to know the legitimate use of a pyro chem.

They DO ask you what you want it for when you buy it at the chemists.

Maybe people should read the labels then? It says it all right there. I tell my chemist I intend to make organic peroxide polymers when I buy gallons of 6% peroxide, and he doesn't seem to mind.

Labels don't help if they keep the product behind the counter.

They dont label the uses on the product of things like kmno4 in the uk . Ive found an other place or reason to buy kmno4 they use it in poodle palours when they clip there nails to stop the bleeding they sell it under the trade name of somthing like clp & stop. I always thought it was used for foot fungui my self but the chemist just gave me a funny look when i said it was for my mothers feet

I know that it is used in ponds ,they use it for disinfect fish which has a sort of fungus disease .The fish is taken out of the pond and put in a reservoir with a solution with potassium permanganete for a short while but I don't know the name of the disease it is used for , maybe a shop where the sell these fishes for ponds will have it to .
That you know that it is used for fungus at feet is known to you but if people of pharmacy here in europe will know that???
it is a cheap common medicine in warm countries against fungus but not exactly in europe (They sell Canesten or something like that for it)

Well anyway, the stuff you buy for your fish tank is almost always in a like 5% solution. If the chemist asks you, the best excuse would probably be that you have athlete's foot.

potassium permanganate is used in winemaking to oxidise ethanol (probably to determinate %) and here in belgium you can buy it in bags of 5kg for ~30$ from a firm that produces tools & precursors for winemaking. I don't know if they sell to individuals though, haven't tried it.
