In Europe, I think they call it "methenamine". There are many other names for it too, urotropine and hexamethylenetetramine (its full chemical name) are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head, but here are some from Mega's site:
<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">1,3,5,7-tetraazatricyclo[3.3.1.13,7]decane; aceto hmt; Aminoform; Ammoform; ammonioformaldehyde; Cystamin; Cystogen; formamine; Formin; HEXA; Hexaform; hexamethylenamine; hexamethyleneamine; hexamethylenetetraamine; hexamethylene tetramine; hexamethylene triamine; hexamine; hexilmethylenamine; Hiprex; HMT; HMTA; Mandelamine; methamin; metheneamine; preparation af; resotropin; 1,3,5,7-tetraazaadamantane; tetraazatricyclo[3.3.1.1(3,7)]decane; UREX; Uritone; Uroqid; Urotropin</font>

Good luck!

Buy some. It should have a faint ammonia sort of smell (but milder). If it dissolves in water, and it's a heating tablet, it's almost certain to be hexamine. Other (petroleum based) tablets won't dissolve.

Most decent hobby shops carry them, ask for them, they are used in miniature steam engines.

the hexamine i get is from the army, pure hexamine heating tablets. they don't dissolve quickly in water, but the boxes are waterproofed, so i'm assuming they disintegrate over time. what else would be sold in solid fuel tablets? in australia, there are other brands, which burn with a much different smell. are there any chemical tests for hexamine??
