You should have done a search. Yes, nitromethane is both a good solvent and forms 2 component "foam" explosives. A LOT of documentation is available on this, including several patents that are floating around.

A patent of interest is <a href="http://164.195.100.11/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=/netahtml/srchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1='3,977,921'.WKU.&OS=PN/3,977,921&RS=PN/3,977,921">here</a> .

They also used the pumice/epoxy material to line "bomb-proof" litter bins. This was a big problem in the UK a while ago, the IRA kept dropping timed bombs in litter bins in public places.

Their last car bomb a few weeks ago was a dud though, guess they forgot you need a booster for ANFO...

The IRA is using ANFO now? Did they run out of semtex or something? heh...

I would think they could get ahold of something better than that, where did you hear it was ANFO?

Are you JOKING? The IRA are the ones that made improvised explosives like ANFO and chlorate/sugar FAMOUS!

They're reported as "fertilizer based explosives", it's got to be ANFO.

They can't really smuggle 50lbs of semtext into England so they tend to come over empty handed and improvise everything here. AN - easily available, diesel - even easier to get, I'm guessing they use AP or HMTD caps too.

oooooh yes, ANFO is the way to go for the IRA and many other organisations in NI. They seem to have been using what semtex they have either for special small jobs or as boosters for the real biggies - 100kg plus.

There's a list of banned fertilisers (or is it a shopping list?) in the NI if you know where to look. I was interested to see elsewhere in the forum that ANFO/ANSOY is used for commercial blasting, assumed it was illegit use only
