Since a car bomb is about demolition I assume this belongs here...
There's a file on the forum ftp named

car_bomb upped by fallout85.mpg

which supposedly shows the effect of a car bomb.
I say it's not a car bomb. First off, the fireball clearly shows an FAE effect - HE's as normally used for car bombs never make such fireballs. One could say that if the gas tank is being affected there'd also be some FAE effect. Could be - but never that big!
I recall vividly seeing a newsfeed about an abadoned car in Spain which was rigged with HE's by the ETA. Police blew it up. It was one extremely forceful detonation with pieces flying around incredibly fast - reminded me of pictures out of desert storm.

Take a closer look at the first couple of frames. You'll see a big oil-drum shaped object just on left behind the car. slowly forward the movie. The explosion starts at that object!
Subsequently the car is being engulfed and destroyed by this FAE.

(edit: dunno... can't link a working URL to this.)

How do you know it's a fake car bomb? I could be a test to see if that a trash can on a sidewalk can hold enough explosives to take out a car or some other test.

And the reason you can't link a file is that you need a username/password. Besides, everyone on this forum (near abouts) has an account, so there is no real need to link it.

Hmm...didn't notice that barrel there before. Well anyway I downloaded it from this site: http://www.emrtc.nmt.edu/media/.

While we're on the topic, have any of you noticed in the atomic cannon movie (I think it's on the ftp) that the cannon dramaticly shifts position and the terrain changes after the bomb explodes. It's as though the camera or the cannon were shifted about five feet in less than a second. Replay it frame by frame and you'll see what I'm talking about.

how I'd define a fake?
Well, let's see... Since that movie clip is named car bomb everyone downloading that file assumes it will be about a bomb within a car or attached to it. The downloading person might also assume that a car bomb is being based on a High explosive and not FAE or else this would have been indicated in the file name e.g. "FAE-carbomb".
To me, there is a difference between a bombed car and a car bomb.
What you are talking about would be a bombed car - bombed by an FAE closeby :p

Regarding the ftp linking - the server also serves for hosting images to be displayed on this forum. If one can link an image to this forum one could also link a file to it via URL. Besides, if it were the case as you mention it everyone would have to log on to the server to download the pictures instead of seeing them here first.
Secondly, no user with a sane mind would give away his very own server password within the link - for linking purposes there's the
ftp://ewf:sd332gf@209.195.155.80
address. This one was the one I tried within the link and it made me wonder why it didn't work.
So please do me a favor and wise up first before becoming edgy here.

Play it frame by frame and you'll see that the barrel explodes, then the car's fuel ignites. I don't think it's a FAE. Maybe some aluminiumised H.E. No, actually I can't really say.

With the atomic cannon..

Why do you hear the sound of the explosion immediately as the nuke detonates. EMP affecting electronics? or Fake?

However I have seen the same footage on a documentary, therefor it aint altered just for the web.

when I said fake I didn't say that I thought the file was altered on purpose.
I should better have called it "car bomb not a car bomb"...
It's not a bomb on/in a car. I won't call it a car bomb.

the atomic cannon is no fake, I uploaded it; you can check the credentials at http://www.vce.com/trinity.html documentary made by award winning peter kuran.
edit: ooops, yes, some parts were dubbed/effects added; eg; the car, woods, shockwave blast

btw, the use of those cannons (yes, more than 1 were made) can create an unforgettable battleground in Afganistan

I'm trying to complete collections of those film esp. nuclar in space, anyone to trade/upload at ftp?

I just stumbled across an interesting web page that just says a lot of information about propylene oxide (commonly used in military FAEs) that some of you may like to read if you have a few minutes. I didn't think a post like this deserved a new topic so I grabbed the first thread that I could find about FAEs.

In any case, its a good read.

And while I am at it; they have over 100 chemical backgrounds (very informative):

if you look very good to the video, you can see some kind of shockwave in the sky... This could be a visable(?) shockwave from a detonation, or maybe the heat wave from a FAE?

Also, if you play the movie in frames you can see that the explosive device is placed into the oil drum behind the front of the car, so i guess it was a test did by the army, or some other federel organisation to test the damage to a car(actually, if you look at the left of you can see the back of another car, or am i mistaking?) maybe for terrorist attacks

To bad the video doesn't has sound, otherwise we could identify the blast by the sound.

anyway, nice vid :D

edit: typo's

At the horizon you can see the shockwave, it is not the heat, I'm sure about that, because on the discovery their was this program all about those shockwaves !! and their was a bomb just like this with the same picture at the horizon

Maybe a little bit off topic, but about 2 years ago there was a big fireplace(dunno actually how to call this, but people make big towers of wood, mostly to celebrate something) of about 10metres high, and it was made all out of wood(old doors, boxes, planks etc.) When it was about 10 o clock everybody was going to the fireplace to watch it burn, suddenly a very loud explosion was heared, and i saw a huge fireball and on the other side of the fireplace were pieces of wood blowen into the sky(next day i was go looking, i found pieces of wood 40-50metres away ), i felt some kind of hot shockwave over my body and i started run like hell, with no idea what actually was happened...

after about 3minutes i heard from a few guys that some people lit the fireplace with gasoline, wich is really stupid, as you know there can be a FAE with only 6% fuel in the air(am i right?)...

are you sure it was no gastank, we do this sometimes, we went into the forest, make a big fire and throw a i think a 50kg gastank with butane at the fire, extreme explosion, huge fireball also.
