View Full Version : Sodium Cyanide... OTC!??

I was just studying for my AP Biology test, and I happened to be reading the section on ecology and it said that japanese fishermen commonly squirt sodium cyanide into the water to stun the fish so that they float to the surface. Now, to be in a high enough concentration to knock out the fish it would have to be a considerable amount of the stuff, and I think that if japanese fishermen can get this stuff without trouble, then distinguished scientists such as ourselves should have no trouble.

Yeah, we might could get it...if we lived in Japan and knew where Japanese fishermen got theirs. Then again, if we lived in Japan, we could get beer from vending machines, Sony's Blu-Ray (which can't be had in the US, UK, or Oz), and much more hentai than is available in the USA. Seems the last two would come in handy for a certain person on the Forum ;) But alas, none of our members live in Japan (to the best of my knowledge), and if you don't know anyone who does, sodium cyanide from Japan doesn't seem like an overall useful OTC source; the exception would be if it was offered online by a Japanese company that would ship to the US, but I don't think Customs would take too highly to someone receiving any decent sized quantities of it (I'm not sure about how much attention Customs pays to international shipments from common carriers, but I'd feel better safe than sorry), if they weren't an industrial user.

Yes but or porn would be fuzzy... damn blurred scenes..... I have never heard of anything avalible in the NW US that works like that to help with fishing.. looks like you need to make some nice Penpals in Japan... Though it would be interesting to at least find out what companies over their in Japan sell it..
