I was looking for a small solenoid that could be powered by a nine volt battery and could travel about 3/4 of an inch or about 15mm does anyone know where i could get a few of these thanks.

If you plan on ordering some, try American Science and Surplus (http://www.sciplus.com) and go to the Electrical Parts sections. You'll find a selection of plain, bare, surplus solenoids. If you're more into improvising some, try looking at the power door lock assembly of any old car. They use a solenoid that runs off the 12 VDC car battery and could probably be configured easily into something that could work off of your 9 VDC battery. It might be a little bigger than what your looking for though. Who knows, go check the local Rat Shack.

What are you planning to use it for? Solenoids put out different amounts of force. Probably your best bet though is salvage, it's cheap, and you might get some other cool stuff in the process. If you just want any old solenoid, there are many companies you can buy them from. Try looking here: http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=575&type=store

"...could travel about 3/4 of an inch ..."
I don't get it, where do it suppose to travel?
Wiring your own would be cheaper than bying in electronics shop, though this will be a pain if wire is lesser than 0.5 mm.

Winding your own is a pain and the result is generally inferior. Be smart, just go buy some from the likes of radio-shack, or Jaycar, or DickSmith, or whoever sells electronics parts in your neck of the woods
