I was wondering if anyone here could outline a procedure for making dinitrophenol, I'm not talking about DDNP(diazodinitrophenol). Would it be just as simple as nitrating phenol with nitric acid? Dinitrophenol is otherwise known as DNP and is used as a fat burner by body builders.

I believe that the reaction of HNO3 on phenol gives you TRInitrophenol, which is preferrable over the DNP anyway.

thanks mongo blongo! I'm not quite sure I understand all that the procedure entails, but I'm sure I can find out what certain things mean by searching a little bit.:D
