Can picric acid be left to dry at room temp or does it have to be heated to drive off the water and if it has to be heated can it be heated in an electric oven instead of being heated on an oil bath. oil bath is pain cheers

You can let it to dry at the room temperature, it will take about 1-4 days, it depends on the amount of it and how thick layer is it on the paper. It is not hygroscopic so it can be dried completely. If you want to speed up the drying you can put it on a warm place(a central - heating radiator), but don't let the temperature rise above ~50°C.
