Hey guys,
I was wondering If you can heat H2O2 Without any noxious gases or danger of any kind thanks!(don't ask why I want to now =·)~ )

This is just a guess, but i think that it'd just turn into water and give of oxygen or something.....
Don't believe any of this, because it is purely an assumption.

H2O2 only has oxygen and hydrogen in it, neither of which are toxic so i think it would release oxygen and turn to H2O.

It does this in the same way that it would with other catalysts, heat being the catalyst in this place. Also, it will break down from sunlight, and that is why it is kept in brown bottles

I thought so just wanted to be sure..another question if I may.....Ok hydrogen is flamible right? so is oxegyn right? why isnt H2O flamible then? I'm not in the least sure but your going to say somthing like its in the composistion of the molocules right?

The reason it isn't flammable is probably Na burns with water, Cl is poisonous, but NaCl is eaten all the time. A compound usually does not have the same properties of its components.

O2 isnt flammable. Think of it like this. If you burn a log in your fireplace, can you burn the ashes? They contain potassium and sodium and carbon and oxygen and all kinds of good stuff. Water is made by hydrogen (or hydrogen containing compound) burning in oxygen. Water is kinda like the 'ash' of hydrogen.

didn't Sgt_Starr ask why H2O isn't flamable?
anyways the reaon it is not flamable is that when things burn they combine with oxygen. so when you burn hydrogen oxygen combines with it making water. thats a kinda simple way to put it but i think its right.

Wow, just went back and read what I wrote. Sorry about the horrible butchering of English. I think you figured out what I meant despite the bad grammer though. Once again, sorry.

Don't try to heat concentrated peroxide (more than 50%). It could explode or burst into your face only by very small ammount of catalyser. A lot of incidents have happened by distiling H2O2 to get almost anhydridous... You know what happens when you mix small ammount 30% H2O2 with KMnO4. Try to immagine heating large ammount and adding KMnO4 to it .

H2O2 can decompose catalyticaly but also autocatalyticaly this means it has no need from something else to react and explode!
It happens from radicalar reaction between free radicals
INITIATION:
H-O-O-H + heat or light <====> 2HO*
PROPAGATION:
H-O* + H2O2 <====> H2O + HO2*
HO* + H2O2 <====> H2O2 + HO*
HO2* <====> H* + O2
H* + H2O2 <====> H2O + HO*
TERMINAISON:
H*+ H-O*--> H2O
H*+ H* --> H2
HO2* + H* --> H2O2
HO* + HO* --> H2O2
Thus as a sumary:
H2O2 --> H2O + O2 + H2 (traces)
Speed is a function of the T, of the concentration and thus if very concentrate, explosion or detonation (only under certain circumstances) can occur!
