If you dont purifiy the aspirin is it really a problem because the other ingredients are usually talc potato starch & lactose wont the starch &lactose be nitrated in the process or are they not compatible with picric acid ?

Ive read that the fillers shouldnt make much of a difference, but if your Acids are working on starch and sugar, then theyre not working on the acetylsalicylic acid, so you'd get less TNP. It's not very hard to purify them. Dissolve in some warm alcohol, filter, and evaporate.

If you get small aspirin (not the onest he size of paracetamols) then the amount of "filler" is small. Weigh a hundred tablets and see.
