Does anybody know which reaction takes place when HCl and MnO2 react to chlorine? There are three possibilites:
1) MnO2 + 2 HCl -> Cl2 + MnO + H2O
2) 2 MnO2 + 2 HCl -> Cl2 + Mn2O3 + H2O
3) 3 MnO2 + 4 HCl -> 2 Cl2 + Mn3O4 + 2 H2O

I need to know that because I want to get the maximum yield.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for your help.
Yes, your one should also be possible. Probably several different reactions take place.
Hmm, this makes it hard for me to calculate the amounts od chemicals needed.
