Urea nitrate is prepared by treating urea with dilute nitric acid,e.g.34%.Choisy proposed using it as an explosive.
Urea nitrate has not found practical application, since it is not stable enough.Urea nitrate is insensitive to friction and to impact. In the lead block test it caused an expansion of 260 or 270 cm3.It detonates somewhat better than ammonium nitrate and guanidine nitrate, but a No 8 detonator did not provoke complete detonation.Medard reported that urea nitrate gives a relative figure of the lead block expansion 79.6(picric acid 100)and the rate of detonation of 30mm dia charges is 3400m/sec paper tube 4700m/sec steel tube.

Why bother? Urea can be brought as a fertiliser, which would also have better purity.

EDIT: This post was relating to a previous post, which has been delated.

I read somewhere on SM that Urea Nitrate can also be made from potassium nitrate, urea and hydrochloric acid. From memory it was rosco bodines work. Very easy one pot method, ill got through my hard drive and try to find it. No nitric or sulphuric acid required.
