I was viewing some BF1942: DC forums and I came across this: I wish I could take credit for thinking it up, however I have modified it a bit so it is more relevant to Rogue science.

The idea behind this is to copy and paste this into a reply and add “x” in the boxes to the replies that suit best.
While this could lead to abuse, I only pointed this out because I think it would work very well to people that have posted really poor threads. I’ll ask the m[g]ods to remove this if they think it’s just going to be misused

Neat idea. Hope it doesn't get it's first use here! ;)

This thread might be the right place to say some other stuff that has been occupying my tiny mind these last few days...

I signed up for this forum at once, and waited two weeks to be able to post. Every time I post, I am really worried I might get HED for something I missed, or whatever. I mean, I want to start a new thread on compressed gas bombs, but I am worried that I might get in trouble, and lose this rather wonderful resource.
So how come do so many idiots sign up, then wait, then post a lame new topic and get instantly banned? Do they really not appreciate the board?

Yet, I worry a little because the mods are slackening off a little in the persecution of some of the lamers, which detracts from the overall aura of the board.

As a suggestion, perhaps we could moderate the first post from anyone?

Another way might be to have a new rating (is it a rating? The "flavour text" you get under your name?) which could be "Suspect lamer" or something. When set, this would be a Final Warning to improve, or else. The vast majority of K3wls would be banned instantly, just like now, but if someone was just getting close to the edge, this would let them, and all the mods, know the instant they looked at *any* of their posts, new or old. Then, if they posted a second lame post in another topic, any other mods would not even need to hesitate to throw them down the waste disposal. After all, they got a warning!

What do people think?

Yet, I worry a little because the mods are slackening off a little in the persecution of some of the lamers, which detracts from the overall aura of the board. Since when have we been slackening? Since Oct. 27th when you registered ? If you'd like to be banned in order to help saving the overall aura of the forum contact me instantly and I will fulfil your wishes :p.

Not quite what I meant!

I was trying to say that there is a fine line... On the one side, people (like myself, I hope) who contribute to the forum and try to enrich it, but worry that they will get banned for something they missed, or some stupid comment or mis-understanding. And the other side is the stupid lamer who doesn't care, and will post rubbish, and may not get banned.

If the mods are too strict, no-one will post unless they already have posted lots, but if they aren't strict, then lamers get away with stuff.

Hence a suggestion for a tag that says "Suspect lamer" :D

And no, please don't ban me! :o

The title under your username does only depend on you number of posts and is not a rating. It's possible to manually change it but instead of doing so we could just as well warn them like we do now in certain cases. Additionally, they are more likely to see that they have been warned in a certain thread than noticing their changed title which they will only see after they have submitted a new post and have a look at it - if they see it at all.

I copied this from drugbuyers.com which is a great forum for discussing online pharmacies.

How many forum members does it take to change a lightbulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs

53 to flame the spell checkers

41 to correct spelling/grammar flames

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim *they* were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct

156 to email the participant's ISPs complaining that they are in violation of their "acceptable use policy"

109 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum

203 to demand that cross posting to hardware forum, off-topic forum, and lightbulb forum about changing light bulbs be stopped

111 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts *are* relevant to this forum

306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty

27 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs

14 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's

3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group

33 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy

19 to quote the "Me too's" to say "Me three"

4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ

44 to ask what is a "FAQ"

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

143 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"

1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again

That list of replies would be funny if it wasn't so true. It happens at every forum I have ever been to, especially newsgroups

I like this idea a lot. Very efficient :).

Apart from the fact that it takes up way too much of useful space just to get a simple point home to the offender.

Unless, of course, you e-mail it to the offender instead...multiple copies...10x a day, by 20 members...for a week...:)

Thats a good idea, then sign them up to email porn....lots of email porn, with the correct amount of email porn supplied a person's email adress will become entirely useless, a hassle if it is a hotmail account but truely aggrevating if it was a family account/ISP given/School adress :D

The idea behind these is too humiliate the offender. It is worth taking up extra space if;
1. They dont do anything stupid like this again
2. The other forum memeber get a laugh out of it

These flame forms should only need to be used sparingly, if they are used too often then they wont be funny anymore.

Sort of like giving as a prize to the "idiot of the month"? Not a bad idea at all!

I like the form and have already used it, and I am now wondering if I should have used it in this circumstance :
