IP: forumftp.serveftp.com

The Forum FTP is a service run, originaly, by Ctrl_C, and now myself (The FTP is in no way officially affiliated with Roguesci or Roguesci's members.). It is a large collection of files related to everything explosives, combat, improvised weapons, drugs, and general chemistry related. It has also recently expanded to include software both chemistry related and not, movies, a PGP key database for members, as well as free image hosting so long as the images are for Roguesci.

If you would like an account, go here (http://www.roguesci.org/forms/ctrlcftpapp.html) and I will contact you within 2 weeks with either an account or a rejection notice. If you do not receive either in 2 weeks, complete the form again and email me at chemwarrior136@ziplip.com with "process account" in the subject line.

If you would like to upload movies, follow these guidelines: they should be under 1GB (for a normal length movie. Ex: Dune was a two disc set so I ripped it to 3 files), frame rate not below 24fps, and they MUST be of similar overall quality to the ones on there already, meaning very little or no pixelation, encoding artifacts, interlacing artifacts etc. Waste space and bandwidth with crap, and Ill block your IP. The movies directory will be set up seperately once I have some people interested in it. It will not be visible by normal members, only those who ask for access to it.

Also, for uploads-
Login- upload
Password- upload

And for moives-
Login- MovieUpload
Password- movie

NOTE- Hosted images are not available as of yet... Im having some problems setting up permissions for it.

Do the uploads have to be related to E&W? I have quite a few movies, books and applications that aren't related. Perhaps I could just upload and you can filter them out on your end later?

The ftp is up 24/7/265... so long as nothing fucks up. Other than regular maintaince, such as backing things up, or defragin a drive, I hope to keep it that way.

Also, concerning movies, you need to e-mail me for access to it. When you do, I will add the permissons to my account... Had I been planning on having the movie folder in the beginning, it wouldnt be that way, but it would be far too much work to add permissons to everyone... therefore, only those who ask for it will get it.

And on a side not, I appologize for the slowness of my replies to requests for acces to the FTP. Ive been rather busy the last two weeks... quite a number of personal problems:( Things are getting better though, so everything should be fine once again:)

chemwarrior
December 8th, 2003, 11:04 PM
Ive processed all account requests Ive recieved. If you dont recieve your reply within 24 hours from now, then assume I didnt get your request and please re-submit the applications. Im sorry for these inconviences, but the ditzy e-mail provider lost a number of my e-mails recently..:(

Once again, Im sorry about the inconviences.

Would anyone want 3D studio MAX version 3? I have the cracked version I could upload but I don't want to upload it (251Mb, I lost the origional extractor) unless people are going to use it. If you want to know it is a 3d modeling software that you can do cgi etc with, very powerfull and usually very expensive software, I find it really usefull. (Could be good for people wishing to visualise weapon plans...)

December 9th, 2003, 08:22 PM
zeocrash - I will try to have visual studio .net cd 4 uploaded within 48 hours.
Also the deadlock game i tried to upload, after failing to resume twice I have decided to give up on it. The size of the entire file is near 700 megs.

Having just pulled down the index:

Total files listed:
file(s) MB
dir(s) MB free

That's quite impressive! Nearly time for a new harddrive!

Edit: Realised it might not be wise to post this... What do people think?

Is it ok to say how much is on the ftp? Number of files?

Passware Password Recovery Kit V6.1 Enterprise

It recovers all kinds of passwords for the most popular office application files, including
Adobe Acrobat (PDF), Lotus 1-2-3/Notes/Organizer/WordPro, MS Excel/Word/Access/Outlook/VBA/Project/MS Mail,
Symantec ACT!, Paradox, Intuit QuickBooks/Quicken, WordPerfect, RAR and ZIP archives etc.....
and encrypted files on Windows 2000/XP EFS partitions.

SureZip Recovery decrypts most WinZip archives in less than an hour regardless of password
used to protect it. At least 5 encrypted files are required in order to process the archives.

I know I'm probably missing the obvious, but can anyone guess why I might not be able to access the upload account? I'm using cuteftp, port 21, pass and username upload. I even tried switching around on the ports and changing from port to passive connection. All kinds of stuff all around.
No chemwarrior I am not attempting to hack your computer on port 80 lol.
This is all I am getting:
STATUS:> Getting listing ""...
STATUS:> Resolving host name forumftp.serveftp.com...
STATUS:> Host name forumftp.serveftp.com resolved: ip = 69.47.50.85.
STATUS:> Connecting to ftp server forumftp.serveftp.com:21 (ip = 69.47.50.85)...
ERROR:> Can't connect to remote server. Socket error = #10060.
Help? Please?

Hi all,

Couple of things:-

How often is the index of the ftp updated? I downloaded it, and it is largely out of date, as it appears that the directory structure has changed completely.

Also, could it be zipped? It is a huge file at 1.2Mb, but as plain text it compresses down to 262K!

Given how out of date the index is, this might already have been dealt with, but there doesn't seem to be much free space left on the disk. Under two Gb isn't much.

On another point, when the forum is down for five minutes, or whatever, could someone (Mega?) pop a note on the front page, so I don't panic, thinking I have been banned!?!?!

jelly
December 11th, 2003, 12:03 PM
The index was created on CTRL_C's FTP server (the old Forum FTP).
Someone has copied this file to chemwarrior's FTP... that's all.

Darkbloodpriest
December 11th, 2003, 07:19 PM
Well...I am trying wsftp now and atttempting to log on the upload account to earn my ftp rights, and I am still having zero success. Anyone else having this problem? Am I missing the obvious? Is the upload account used in a way I'm to stupid to realize? I don't know. In the meantime...are there any copies of windows xp pro on the ftp? I have a bootable corporate and non bootable with most of the hotfixes and sp1 incoporated. If this is something desired on the ftp, I'd love to know how I can acquire access :D What programs is everyone with only upload access using? I noticed someone earlier in this thread was having the same problem...maybe its not just me.

EDIT(In reply to peterthesmarts post)
YAY!!!
I think...

Sorry everyone, the FTP was down while I tracked down a hacker who was trying to gain admin access to my system through the FTP. Soon Ill be sending Mega an e-mail with the violators IP. I believe it may have been someone who asked for access to the FTP but was rejected. Thanks to whoever it was, they managed to change most of the passwords on my system. It took me over 6 hours to fix everything they screwed up.

Yes!!! It wasn't just my stupidity...the ftp is up now. Upping the bootable xp pro cd now.
Please delete the other one chemwarrior, its only at 14.56 and was a flop on my part.
I'll definately be putting up the one with all the fixes included as soon as this one is done.
I'll try to find deadlock as well in the meantime and up it if it is found.
Assuming someone doesn't beat me to it...
My complete game collection(as I can find at the moment):

Battlefield 1942
Battlefield 1942 Road to Rome
Battlefield 1942 Secret Weapons of WW2
Black and White
Black and White Creature Isle
Civilization 3

Empire Earth The Art of Conquest

Giants Citizen Kabuto

And theres more I can't find or remember right now...

I had the same problem as Darkbloodpriest with Cute FTP Pro. Socket Error # 10060. Then I realised I was at forumftp.serveftp.ORG instead of com. mega, surely you mean PUBLIC key!

Chem_warrior, I just uploaded a short batch script to the FTP. Move it to the root of the FTP, run it, and it will index the folders and save it as FTPdirlist.txt on any Windows system. Before you run it, check it matches the following!

--
@echo off
echo Batch script to update the FTP listing
echo Might take up to thirty seconds, depending on number of files, etc.
dir /s > FTPdirlist.txt
echo Finished!
--

Glad you fought off the hacker attacker. I am sure we will see the idiot's IP soon enough.

EDIT: Just a thought, you might want to edit the resulting file header, as it gives the name of your harddisk.

Please do update the index, though, since it is months out of date!

I uploaded "US Army MD 0006, Basic Human Anatomy" and "US Army MD 0007, Basic Human Physiology" to the FTP.

My first upload worked, but my first download didn't! I got the .1, .2, .3, etc files from the "Incendiary Weapons" folder, but I don't know how to join them. I tried Hjsplit and Axman, but nothing seems to work. Can someone give me a hint, please? Its not my intention to bother you, but I searched google and the forum and I still have no idea about how to join these files.

I was browsing through the FTP the other day and I noticed a preview of an anime upped by NBK. Are forumites interested in Anime? If so I have over 80GB of good anime + what's on cd that I can start uploading. Just let me know. I did upload an interesting video on lockpicking, check it out.

Chem, do you want software in other languages such as German or Italian?

December 16th, 2003, 06:45 PM
K, thanks Mega.

And please, no anime! Regular movies are a burden as is... Im going to be needing another HDD soon as is.

Peter, please just keep software to english. All the members on here understand english, and if I start taking software from other languages, the FTP will be full in less than a week. As is, its already around 80GB, not including the movies Im going to be adding soon.... By the end of January, Im going to need to purchase a new HDD... I wonder if there is any way I can get a terabyte sized HDD.... ;)

Perhaps we should divide the forum's ftp like I mentioned awhile ago. I think it would be best(and easier) if we dedicate the ftps.

1. Software/Applications
2. Movies
3. E-books/Movies relating to

Any other ideas?

Yes, but someone could easily upload a file with a similar name, which was malicious. I figured what with the hacking, you didn't need the extra hassle.

Oops. My bad. Typo, I think... :o

One way to cut the diskspace in use might be to take sections and unzip them, and bundle them together into a tighter zip. There are quite a few plain text files that could be done with, though it probably isn't worth the effort.

A better way might be to run some software to scan for duplicate files, and lose them. There do seem to be quite a few of those!

And no anime? Damn! I have every episode (two whole series) of Trigun. :)

IDBT,
How would we coordinate the different ftps? I can see spliting feature films off as being a good idea, as without them, there would be a lot more room for text files, etc. on interesting things. Perhaps warez could be split off too.

It might be worth running a quick analysis of the ftp files at the moment. I will do it if chemwarrior updates the index, then we can work out a logical split from the results I post.

Sorry for the extremely newbie questions...
I really don´t know anything about this stuff, I have never been on a ftp.., but When I typed the adress in to the adress field in my browser, it said that it couldn´t find forumftp.serveftp.com
do I have to use a special program to get to it? someone mentioned cuteftp?

Also, "jimmyboy" posted when he couldn´t reach the ftp:
"i never get a ping reply from your address forumftp.serveftp.com"
what is a "ping reply", and how do I know if I get one?

chemwarrior
December 17th, 2003, 02:25 PM
Efraim, use something like www.bpftp.com s dedicated FTP browser.

Also, no, we are not going to split up the FTP. It is good the way it is. I still have over 70gigs of HDD space, which is over double what the FTP size is right now. And when that is filled, Ill purchase a larger HDD, something like a 300gig-500gig one. As is, at the current rate of uploads, it will take between 4-6 months for the current drive to be filled, so we arent in any trouble. And like I said, when its filled, Ill simply buy a larger drive and transfer the files to that, and use this drive as a back up HDD incase of something happening.

Set up a ring of FTPs each one with a dedicated purpose. No offense, chemwarrior, but everytime I goto upload something the FTP has been down. I appreciate the fact that you've taken all of this on by yourself, but it's impractical for one purpose to hold all of the responsibility and liability. Am I alone with this opinion?

Rhadon

Am I alone with this opinion? Absolutely not. The more FTPs we have the higher the reliability. Some of our members already seem to consider running their own FTP server and I would appreciate them doing so.

While I think your heart may be in the right place IDTB I personally do not plan to upload to anybody's ftp other than chemwarrior's any time soon.
The only reason I trust him is because ctrl_c did. Or atleast I trust him as anyone can be trusted in a place like this but thats not the point.
On one hand I agree that UPLOADING STINKS at the moment, but I have faith that the bugs are still being worked out. On the other hand, I don't think the current system is all that bad.
Now if you, IDTB, were a upstanding member of like....2 years...I wouldn't have nearly as much hesitation.
But whats the problem anyways? Why don't you simply set up your own ftp and put it in your sig.
Whats wrong with that? I'm sure SOMEONE will be interested; it just won't be me...
Hey...you could always put up a anime ftp :D

Efraim, if you have a ftp account, you can use wsftp in the meantime to download a copy of cuteftp from the warez folder. You can download a trial copy of wsftp here (http://www.ftpplanet.com/download.htm).
If that doesn't answer your question feel free to pm me.

Multiple FTP servers would be good, but random duplication of files is a bit silly.

Why multiple servers? Cos at 90% efficiency, with two servers, that equates to 99% uptime. With three, it is even lower. It would also allow some load balancing.

Chemwarrior, how fast is your connection? How many users are on at any time, average?

I would suggest SWIM set up an ftp server that could be a mirror of Chemwarrior's. Don't bother duplicating the movies and other big, but fairly unrelated to E&W, files. Then specialise in anime, and we are set!

That gives the Forum FTP better than 99% uptime for the stuff that we are really interested in, and 90%+ for anime and movies and warez.

As Rhadon says, start another FTP if you think you can cope. If I felt I could get away with it on my connection, I would!

There has never yet been more than 5 members on at any given time. Also, my connection is currently 512kb/s, but within a month Im upgrading to T-1, fiber optic setup.

As for multiple FTPs, if your interested, Ill run things in the way Ctrl_C did. You will need to contact me by e-mail, PGP encrypted, and we will discuss things.

The parts should be in the format of IW.pdf.#

The # would be 1 through 16, no 0 preceding the single digit numbers. If there's a .txt extension (like IW.pdf.#.txt) then remove it to be able to reassemble the file.

The file wasn't split using Axman, nor HJsplit, so that's why they don't work. You'll need the .BAT file to restore it, which I've so generously attached to this post. :)

Whoever upped it did every forumite a disservice by uploading the required .BAT file to allow for it's restoration. I hate seeing people mangle my work. Any idea how long it took to scan that fucker? And what good does 20Mb of unreadable gibberish do anyone?

Having the file names IW.pdf.# (1-16) and the following .bat: copy /B IW.pdf.1 + IW.pdf.2 + IW.pdf.3 + IW.pdf.4 + IW.pdf.5 + IW.pdf.6 + IW.pdf.7 + IW.pdf.8 + IW.pdf.9 + IW.pdf.10 + IW.pdf.11 + IW.pdf.12 + IW.pdf.13 + IW.pdf.14 + IW.pdf.15 + IW.pdf.16 IW.pdf, I am able to join the files to a single .pdf :), which doesn't work . Thank you anyways...

I re-downloaded everything, it still doesn't work. My files are all 1.457.664 bytes, except the .16, which is 887.356 bytes; alike the files on the FTP. I smell sabotage here. Someone doesn't want people reading SIPRI's Incendiary Weapons. Perhaps B.U.R.N.E.D. has begun.

Whatever. I have better books to read. LOP 36: Disdain things you cannot have: ignoring them is the best revenge.

The connetion is timing out. I dont have a set time-out period, so Im thinking it may be on your end... if you want, send me an e-mail with the log from whatever FTP client you use and Ill try to see if its something other than a time-out.

Also, NBK, Im not sure setting up a file download restriction is a great idea... I could set it for X number of files per day... but I dont much care for that idea..

As for the FTP itself, there is nothing happening with my connection... I have a logging program that logs ever time the my internet goes on or the connection drops... and I havent had that happen since about the beginning of November, and that was only because of a power outage... Im not sure why some people are having dropped connections... As I told Zeo, Ill look into it, but I honeslty believe that it may be the connectoin timing out... I know when I used to connect up on dial-up, it would automatically disconnect me after a certain period of time no matter what I did... If your worried about droped connections though, simply use Bullteproof FTPs client. you can get it at www.bpftp.com It is by far the best FTP client Ive used and it automatically reconnects to the server after a dropped connection and it doesnt harm the file in any way... it acts as if the file were merely paused until the connection is reestablished.

Saravok:

Use the checksum function in HJSplit on the file parts you got, e-mail them to me, and I'll compare it to mine and see if perhaps it's just one damaged file.

Also, did you download the parts in BINARY or ASCII mode? That'd make a difference.

Chem:

I don't see any plausible reason why a person should be able to download a hundred files, or 5 gigabytes of information in one sitting from the FTP. Either they're getting greedy and grasping, or they're trying to rape the FTP, neither of which is tolerable.

People need to learn to control themselves. If you have access, you're always going to have access, as long as you're a member here. So calm down. Don't spend all day downloading everything you can like the first time you connect to it will be the last time and you have to get as much as you can while you can.

Well.....I personally am getting annoyed with the file permissions. I have attempted upload of part two of the sims collection 3 times now. After about a day of attempts to finish uploading something, the file evidently gets locked somehow and I am denied access. Now unless you don't mind having ten worthless 500 mb pieces everytime I up a large file, you might look into this.
I'm using cute ftp pro.
Now downloads are everything I could expect...albeit a bit on the strange side. I might be downloading something...and then it freezes/stops downloading. So I pause and restart the transfer and evidently everything starts back up ok. Little annoying....but the information I'm getting is FREE!!! It can take as long as it wants to give me the files I want :D

If your uplaods are too big just use a file splitter, hjsplit is freeware think, and there are many others. Just make sure you make a self reassembly bat file when you split the files to prevent anyone from being tied to one particular splitter prog the identity of which remains elusive.

peterthesmart
December 18th, 2003, 07:38 PM
Chem, maybe you could make a folder just for files that have been split up. It would help keep things organized rather than having a few hundred files in the uploads folder. Once the file is completely uploaded, one could leave a note and the file could be easily put back together and checked for errors.

chemwarrior

Pete, thats not a bad idea.. Ill have it set up withing an hour.

Also, I honestly dont want to put download restrictions on the FTP... makes me feel like a crotchety bastard, lol. If I do, however, I think Ill set it for about 250megs a day for regular members, and members who are very high contributors, such as peterthesmart, or admin/mods will be allowed unlimited downloading access. This would also help convince people to upload more:) Heck, I was thinking about it before but didnt like the idea much, but it is possible for me to set an upload/download ratio... I could have it set for something like one upload means 10 downloads... but once again, it makes me feel crotchety, lol.

Ill think about limiting the downloads throughout the day. If any changes are made to the way that is, Ill be sure to leave a message stating it.

Dave the Rave
December 23rd, 2003, 12:05 PM
@Chem - I think that limiting the donwload based on the upload ratio of the member is the most productive way to not clog your bandwidth and incentive the spread of information. On the other hand, maybe it will incentive some members to upload crap, just to have better download ratios.
Why not ask the members to sign their uploads, like does Sarevok, and, based on the quality of their uploads, give them an ammount of bandwidth ?

By the way, I´ve uploaded the 3 volumes of Fedorof`s Enciclopedia of Explosives and Reacted Itens, but I see only volumes II & III. Maybe I have some troubles ? It´s better I upload the 1st volume again ?

xyz
December 23rd, 2003, 09:36 PM
Upload/Download ratios simply don't work, look what happened to the "Participation Level" thing on Kazaa.

Also, it doesn't take into account the member's contributions on the forum.

I think that members should be able to download as much as they want so that we get more copies of the files out there, when Ctrl_C's FTP went down, we would have been screwed if existing members hadn't had copies of most of the files.

After all, rogue science is about the free spread of as much information as possible.

Darkbloodpriest
December 24th, 2003, 01:21 AM
Yes that SOUNDS all well and good but its the fact that the people who
had to scan in the pages of the books, decompile and hack the programs,
search out all the volumes of Federoff, take the time to upload all of this,
and decide to share them with all of us might not want Mr John Q. Kewl
to give all of his friends a copy of all of these great things. While I can
easily see the reasoning behind all of this, I don't see how, if someone REALLY
wants to share all of our stuff with everyone on queerpier, we are going to stop them.
I'm all up for fighting the good fight against such illegal distribution :D
But seriously, most people simply are not going to respond to limiting their download.
Would you judge by quality or quantity or a bit of both? Whos going to search thru all
of the uploads and decide whats good and bad as far as how its going to affect someones
download speed? Too much work I say. And if everyone uploads a ton of stuff, and we
all get pretty much unlimited access, we would be back in the same boat.
Take dave the rave there for example. He upped all three volumes of federoff.
I would give him access to download whatever for all time simply for the content and
the sheer amount of work that must have been(assuming you did the work).
But what about someone that only has the newest copy of winrar to upload?
Does that mean he only gets to download one file a day? What if someone
forgets to put their name on a their uploads?
Not worth the effort I say. Someone on broadband can get everything they want off
of the ftp in only a few days anyways.

But, if this is the way things are going to be, I'm all well and good with it.

If Zyklon B had lived in Australia instead of Canada, I would have made sure his door was busted down at 4am by ASIO. To make matters worse, someone has hacked into his computer and placed a shitload of terrorism plans and kiddy pr0n on his Hard drive.
Since Australia has fairly draconian terrorism laws, such as being able to detain a person for 48 hours without a lawyer, it'd be interesting to see how long he lasts. To finally make his life a total misery someone has tipped off the media about him planning a major terrorist attack. So not only does this person get humiliated but also exposed.
I think thats justice don't you?

EDIT: Zyklon B need to have his own title along with RTC aka Eliteforum and anyone else that chooses to steal or fuck with us.

There has been much talk lately of new means for distributing the files which are available via the ftp(such as creating additional FTPs, for example). So, I began to think of an effective method for making the files on the FTP more readily available to deserving members while also preventing unwanted access and saving Chemwarrior some bandwidth. I think the best method for this would be BitTorrent. It's a Peer-to-Peer "fileswarming" application. Its structure effectively discourages "leeching" by basing your download rate on your upload rate. Now, this doesn't mean that if you aren't able to upload as fast as you download you won't be able to get files quickly. Speeds on BitTorrent are usually far better than what I get on the FTP. I would be willing to seed the larger files that I have from the FTP or tar/zip the documents I have and allow members to download them. If people like this idea, a private section of the forum could be made for members who have been granted FTP access. The password file from the FTP could just be turned into a .htaccess file and Torrents could be posted in this forum. The whole process is rather simple. There is the risk of some authorized member passing a Torrent file to an unauthorized person but that's no different from someone just uploading something from the FTP to somewhere else. Personally, I don't think it's completely a bad thing when FTP files are distributes, just so long as it's not-for-profit. On the other hand though, the FTP does serve as a means of promoting contribution to the Forum with a reward. If anyone is interested in the BitTorrent idea, let me know.

Edit: I forgot to mention that somebody(I could possibly do it) would have to run a tracker for the files.

More informatio on BitTorrent can be found at BitConjurer (http://www.bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/)

On a sidenote, Darkbloodpriest: Someone who has contributed as little as you should not bark so loudly. I don't know if I am the same as other members, but you seem rather offensive and annoying(not based solely on this thread but others as well). I think it would be in your best interest and the Forum's to take a less "entitled" attitude. Though I suppose I am in no place to say any of this. Oh well.

chemwarrior
December 25th, 2003, 02:43 AM
Photonic, Darkbloodpriest has contributed a LOT of files to the FTP. Therefore he has a right to make some of the comments hes made.

Also, Im not sure who the fuck did it, but someone fucking uploaded porn to the FTP. Let me catch whoever did it and Ill make sure their IP is blocked permanetly. The FTP is NOT a place for sharing your porn. If you want to do that, fucking use Kazaa or something, but dont fucking waste my bandwidth and HDD space.

December 25th, 2003, 03:25 AM
As much as I hate to hijack a thread for the sole use of bickering I WILL make my intent known.
I try to only post when I have something useful to say. If you look you'll notice I have only posted 14 times in over a year, with most of that in the last month or so. I'm posting what I know about, which would be software. I could post about E&W, but I'll stick to my area of "expertise" so to speak.
If you read closely into what I have said EVERY single time I have "bickered" at something or someone it has been for a valid reason. I bark so loudly because (ususally)I know what I'm talking about. If my comments are so unwanted you won't see them. Nice way to say thank you darkbloodpriest for what contributions you HAVE made. I'm sorry I've been "annoying" with my helpful hints here and there.
Ok....I just had to get that out. It won't happen again...not here anyways.
Theres always that little email button if you have something to say

And thanks chem.

Now to respond to what you have said bittorrent is a terrible solution because:
A. There is little control over how the program is built(room for trojans, backdoors, etc) so your version by company XYZ may be all well and good but my version I got from some warez site(as if you are going to see bittorrent anywhere else) might be filled with downloaders.
B. How do I know you are sending me what the title of the file says it is?
C. The versions of bittorrent I have tried are VERY buggy and unreliable. Connection drops, lockups, MY COMPUTER HAD A BSOD EVERYTIME I RAN THE PROGRAM.
D. Have you ever talked to some of the people that run those tracker sites? I've talked to quite a few myself. You got a T1 connection to use for this tracker site? Besides, that is way too much work for my tastes especially when you consider there would be THOUSANDS of files listed on the tracker site. Look into it and you'll see the difficulties that lie ahead for you.

Won't be seeing me using it I'll tell you that. That and the anonymity factor is pretty much nil while the ftp is about as anonymous as we can all hope to get.

Stick to the topic at hand please...(advice I too will take in the future)

(Edit) What inspired such comments anyways? I did't say anything rude or annoying that I can see...unless you count what I said about uploads, but that seems to have been fixed somehow...yay.
Btw, I hope I don't get banned for this...I'll be good. :(

I have a problem, I can´t log in to the ftp for some reason. This is the message I get from the ftp program when I try:

Finding Host forumftp.serveftp.com ...
Connecting to 69.47.50.85:21
Connected to 69.47.50.85:21 in 0.330000 seconds, Waiting for Server Response

Host type (1): Serv-U
USER Efraim_barkbit
331 User name okay, need password.
PASS (hidden)

It looks like it wont recognise the password or something.
Do anyone know what the problem could be?

I´m using a ftp program called "ws_ftp pro", if it makes any difference.

Rosco Bodine
December 28th, 2003, 06:33 PM
That same failure to recognize the password has also occurred at times for me using WS_FTP Pro v 8.02
( by FOSI :) . It may be that it is a bug in the WS_FTP Pro version that we both are using , and I suspect that it very well
could be . There are a couple of different dialogue boxes where you can save your login name and password . There is an option where you can have the FTP proggie open with a connect dialogue , showing a tree of "My Sites" , and you can associate a saved login and password for the forum ftp .
It seems to give fewest of the failed to recognize password errors when connecting from the connection dialogue at the beginning of a session . When you open the program , go to Sites > Add to Sites > WS_FTP Pro Site Profile Wizard and fill out the forms for the profile for the forum ftp . There seems to be fewer errors after the site profile and login and password are saved , than when manually entering the same information . And still occasionally , despite those settings
being correct , the program still randomly seems to pop up a dialogue box for a manual entry of the password , as if the saved password was for some reason "hidden" or not "sticky" . It may be that there is an expiration time associated for the saved password for security reasons ,
and if you don't connect to a saved profile site for awhile , the saved password expires and must be reentered manually . I am not certain about this but it sure would explain things if that was so .

- Ragnar Benson "Ragnar's Action Encyclopedia Of Practical Knowledge And Proven Techniques"

Some forumites who live in European countries with a strict censorship enjoy the reading of (banned)
books which aren't politically correct. Me too.

Be honest, sometimes the watching of Kurt Saxon's video "how to produce ricin in your kitchen"
is 1000 times more interesting and amusing than reading the ricin patent :D

------------------

Here you can read an interesting article about censorship in Germany:

http://www.mundanebehavior.org/issues/v2n1/seim.htm

"...But even manuals for self-defense, such as many books from the US publishers Paladin Press and Loompanics Unlimited, have been seized by Canadian and German authorities: "Get tough! How to win in hand-to-hand fighting by Cpt. Fairbairn, Paladin Press, Boulder, Colorado or The poisoner's handbook" by Maxwell Hutchkinson, Loompanics, Port Townsend, Washington 1988, although they were "sold for informational purposes only". In the USA they were freely available because of the First Amendment; in Germany, they have been banned since 1991 because they contain instructions on how to commit criminal offenses...."

Ossassin, The point isn´t drop now or drop later... The point is chemwarrior gives his time and money to mantain a FTP, with no expenses of us, the members, just for the love of free information. He can and will decide, with final word, those who will benefit from his kindness and expenses, as any of us does when invite someone to a party.

The only thing he is asking to those who wants be at his party is, bring a beer, or, in forum words, contribute with something new, made by your efforts, a good book, a new patent, some projects or even an pdf of a long time lost website of value.

May be something simple, as a downloaded and compiled pdf of manuals and blueprints of guns, maybe a scan of an retired manual, like the fm 5-31, as celtick does, but must be something made by you.

See, I am a member since 2000, even after that, if you count the old platform and the memorable 1st forum, and I´ve uploaded many books and files, many of them already there or floating on the net, but it don´t make me an rigthfull lifelong user of the FTP, just because any of the files was an work of mine - so far I haven´t aplied to an account -

When I make something usefull to all of us, and when it be at the FTP, then I will aply to an access, and I sugest that you make the same, don´t even say "I drop now and later, I try again".

Do Your best, As does Chemwarrior, Or don´t do nothing at all.

I have a few e-books that since I downloaded I don't know if they are in the FTP or not. So rather than upload it and take up room for nothing I will just list them and anyone who knows whether they are on or not can (if they want) just reply to the post.

-"FM 5-250 explosives and demo"
-US Military Diving (useless file)
-TM-31-210 improvised munitions handbook (only problem with it is that the WR manual is with it no offence to anyone who made it but it is full of BS/misinformation)
-"CIA improvised sabotage devices" (one of the more interesting e-books)
-"self defence nerve centres and pressure points" (not a bad file)
-"2 pistol designs with full templates"
-a couple of rifle e-books like the SKS and m16 markmanship ones.
-e-book: expedient home made 9mm submachine gun. (has pics too)
-autocad 2002 bible.
-CIA explosives preparations
-FM 21-150 hand to hand killing
-home made sten gun (I think)
-and a zip of about 37 files including visual C, hagakure, marine sniper, sniper training,US military survival guide, natures cures. etc etc etc.

I hope I didn't break any of the forums rules by posting this list/post...
and lastly if "anyone" is wondering why I have all these different e-books the answer is that I enjoy learning about shit they don't teach you in school. "information purposes only"

Tiac03, all your books are already at the FTP... Anyway, can you search your public libraries to find any book about our topics ?

A thing that most people don´t realise is that to make explosives we need strong acids, maybe through the chemistry library at your local University you can find some book about the industrial or experimental production of acids. Well the only other books that I have then are "Henley's Formulas" (which has an explosives and fireworks section), and some of the old canadian army training manuals. (placing charges properly, sniping, field craft, engineering, rockets and missiles air cadets 3rd year (has a couple of mixtures, and goes over the basics of rocket design),and impovised incendiaries. (as obstacles, but most are designed to use a phosphorus grenade to set off).

I would have to scan them before uploading though.

As for the acid thing I can always check the chem section in the library.
My chem book briefly talks about things like the hazards of Picrate acid, and it talks about the civil war ship mines a bit (because of the H2SO4+sugar igniter). I havn't looked at it for a while but if I find anything about acid manufactoring I will take pics of the pages for y'all, and maybe bring the digital camera to the college's library and "look" through some books also.

Lastly I'm canadian getting more specific than that.... well I can't because if "someone" wants to find me they will need to work for it.

yeah chem's dynamic DNS service is fucking up at the moment so you cant connect to the FTP server unless you enter it's IP address (which only chem knows)

Ossassin:

My library has a comprehensive guide to locksmithing. Would that be useful?

Yes, certainly, especialy if you search some patents and sellers sites to find blueprints of locks, safes and security doors, to ad value to your book. Then, with your new scanned book and your blueprints, you can make your own PDF of compreensive lockpicking, upload it to our FTP and receive some apreciative nods.

Military manuals are always wellcome, along with formulae books and anything that deals with syntesys and preparation of chemicals. If you find something valuable, the best idea is to photocopy or take pictures of the material and then scan it to upload, on PDF format.

I just tried the ip above, the forumftp.serveftp.org address, and the last one I connected too, but no joy. I get connection refused, or nothing.

Chemwarrior, could we just get your ip off here every so often? After all, anyone who tries the mask address gets to see the real ip a few moments later anyway!

As another cunning plan, who here uses SSH at all? It is far more secure than FTP, as passwords, etc are encrypted, as is all data. I have to use it at work, and there are nice file transfer progs for it, etc. so it looks like ftp.

If someone set that up, it could be even better than an FTP, as there is a real filesystem underneath (*nix, generally) so you can search for file names and the like. Does anyone know if this would be possible? (or even a good idea?)

There's also ECTP, which is an encrypted FTP standard slowing working it's way through the W3 committees, though the server/client software is already available.

Chem's IP is available to staffers whenever he posts. We could make it available as required so people could connect, though we'd sort that out with him first.

well I took some pics of a few pages dealing with outlines of acid manufactoring. short how-to's of Sulfuric, nitric, HCl, acetic and orthophosphoric acid. 2 tables too. My camera was running out of juice so they arn't top quality had to take them as quickly as possible (one page is slightly blurry but readable) and the other has some words "cut off" because of the way I was holding the book but still readable also, the rest although not professionally done are clear.

I will try to get it up on the ftp as soon as I edit it. (adobe photoshop has to be reinstalled on my comp because my "serial number" isn't valid anymore) by the end of the week i will do it as long as I don't get swamped with tests/HW.

'Tis indeed odd that persons who run the FTP seem to vanish soon after it is all running sweet eg: Ctrl_C

nbk2000
March 7th, 2004, 04:10 AM
Yes, I've noticed this.

However, _C had the courtesy to pass it on to someone else, prior to leaving.

Chem doesn't seem to have had the same courtesy.

However, all is not lost. :)

A friend of mine in town is planning on getting cable shortly. He's been a member for a few years and I see him all the time. He's talked to me about running an FTP, so I think that's going to happen shortly.

Not only will he run the FTP, but I'll also occassionally mirror the HDD, so an admin will have a full copy of the FTP, so if anything happens in the future, there will be DVD copies of all the FTP files for distributing to other staff for redistribution and posting on the 'net.

And, oddly enough, chem's been here as of an hour and a half ago, though he hasn't posted anything since feb '13th.

Though I wonder why he's lurking? Seems....suspicious...

Anyways, he'll not be seeing this. :) If the FTP is still up and running, which it doesnt' seem to be, proceed to rape and pillage everything you can as it's not likely to be up for much longer.

The IP of his connection is 216.29.205.(193-255). Just change the last digits between 193-255 in your FTP client and see if you can connect. He may still have it running for others, thinking that not posting his current IP is sufficient protection.

Resolving host name 216.29.205.228....
Connecting to (216.29.205.228.) -> IP: 216.29.205.228 PORT: 21

But with all other numbers I get this

Connecting to (216.29.205.230.) -> IP: 216.29.205.230 PORT: 21
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
Cannot login waiting to retry (30s)...

Then I got this when using 255

Resolving host name 216.29.205.255....
Connecting to (216.29.205.255.) -> IP: 216.29.205.255 PORT: 21
The requested address is not valid in its context.
Cannot login waiting to retry (30s)...

Well since my FTP program you can run multiple connections, I could connect to all the IP's between 193 and 255 at once and have them all open, his IP changes all the time no?

To the Admin, Mods, and Members of Roguescience-

Yes, I have been gone for a while, but that is due to life. NBK told me I needed to get a job and work my ass off, which I have been doing almost incessantly. This is the first day Ive had off since I started a while back. Im in the process of trying to balance schooling, family, FTP, work, and dozens of other things as of late.

I have not been posting because I simply lack the time to write decent responses to anything. I had planned to spend time tonight doing so, but as of right now I am unable to access the Forum, apparently due to NBK banning me. (Note- A member here sent me you're post, hence why Im not thinking that its a glitch or something.)

As to the FTP, I have not simply been using it for others. No one has been. I havent a clue as to what is wrong with my DynDNS, but its fucked royaly. Ive tried several different programs, providers, etc, but none of them work.

NBK, as to backups of the FTP, I offered to send them to you, and have the disks burnt already, but since you never got the last thing I sent, you told me to hold off for the time being.

Concerning people sending me e-mails, Ive replied to all of the account requests Ive recieved, either with a flat out rejection, or something along the lines of "Re-send application after I manage to get the FTP up and running again."

And NBK, I have'nt been ignoring you. Im at work most of the time and dont have a chance to reply or whatever (you know what I mean).

I honestly dont know what more I can do. I've been doing my best to stay up with whats going on with the Forum, but with my lack of time, thats hard to do.

To those that I talk to when I can, I will continue to do so.

To those that want to contact me, my e-mail is available, as well as my instant messengers.

Also, if anyone needs specific files, send me an e-mail with what you're looking for, and I'll do my best to get the files you need to you.

NBK, if banning me is you're final choice, so be it. I don't see a reason behind it, but you're the Admin, not me.

Sincerely,
Chemwarrior

Blah, blah, blah!

Excuses, not reasons, is what I'm seeing.

I worked full-time at a job I hate, work on the DVD everyday, am looking for a new job, and have to move shortly, and yet I still find time to check in here almost everyday and answer my e-mails.

Having not spoken to or heard from him in almost a month, I'm assuming he's hosed, regardless of what he may say once he's noticed I've disconnected his access here.

I'll let him back into our good company IF he sends me the DVD copies of the FTP, but he's not going to be running it any longer, regardless, as the FTP is a "critical infrastructure" type of thing, and can't be subjected to the vagaries of a teenagers whims or life problems.

Of course, how can I get him the address to send them to if he never answers the phone when I call, or responds to the e-mails that I send him?

I don't mean to be nosey, but do you really have such direct contact? If so, does it not go against all that you say in a security sense? As you said, he's a teenager and teenagers aren't 100% reliable due to varies reasons. I don't mean to be a smartass, but I have general concern.

NBK can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants, with whoever he wants. I'm sure he takes whatever security precautions he deems necessary. You dont think he uses a maildrop or remailer service or both?
I'm more than willing to act as a go between or whatever. I uploaded quite a bit of quality shit to the FTP before it went down, and I have some great things I'd like to share with y'all. In addition I'd really like a crack at the Federoff files.

I wouldn't run an FTP, but I would run something a bit more secure, like sFTP or something. I would have to spring for a new, big harddisk, but that shouldn't be too much hassle, really. I would, for sure, set up some kind of DNS proxy mask, though.

As discussed elsewhere, the problem is that the forum is full of people who have no ties and no real idea of the other members - any person here, even NBK2000 or megalomania, could be a cop - this whole site could be a honeytrap! (Remember rule 1!) Unfortunately, needs must as the devil drives, so we all use this place, and hope we don't get a visit, or (worse?) banned!

The only way around this that I can see is some kind of hacked/cracked server somewhere, which we can use via an anonymous proxy or two, to store files on, which would be one of a number of machines, all of which sync'd files every so often. It is the only way for a zero trust network like this one.

The other option is for everyone who isn't a cop to put up their hand... :(

It's either this or we all go back to the dark ages of "peck and hunt" for the stray bits of good stuff amidst a sea of shit that is the internet.

As it stands, there may be some risk, but the gains are far greater. In the US, we still have the First Amendment, and we'd better use it while we can, 'cause no telling how long it'll last. When that happens, it'll be time to use the Second Amendment to full effect. ;)

But, before then, you have the collective power of dozens of people, all of the same interest, pooling resources, which results in a far greater effect than the sum of the parts alone.

As for connecting to an FTP with a proxy: I have tried that, but I failed. At first, there are only very few proxy servers which will allow you to connect to an FTP and if you finally find one it won't conceal your IP. That's at least what I have experienced so far.

And even if it worked the method would still not be suited for larger volumes of data because a proxy will always slow you down severly.

NBK, I was poilte in the message I had Wrench post for me, but Im sick and tired of it. You were on my fucking ass for months to get a damn job. Well, I have a job now, and I work daily for at least 6 hours, and thats after 6 hours of school as well... so that takes a 24 hour day down to 12 hours... now we have to figure in sleep, so for me thats about 6-9 hours, so that leaves 3 hours of my own time, in which I do homework for about 2, and then I work out for about 45 minutes, and then I crash in bed. I havent had the fucking time to work on the FTP lately because of that, and I havent had time to post either.

Also, I specifically mentioned to you that I would be disappearing from the forum for a while so I could try to get my life in order. Also, "his girlfriend dumped his ass and apparently he's suffered a mental breakdown" hmm, sorry, Im still dating her, despite your persistent urgings that I "dumb the slut". Sorry buddy, but guess what? I LOVE her. I realize that this is a foerign concept to you, so I wont expect you to understand it, but rather just accept it. (and for the record, her and me are doing much much better now :D)

You want the DVDs NBK? Then drive your ass out here and get them. Im not going to waste more money by mailing you 20 disks, especially after the shit you've pulled over the last week.

You dont like what Im saying? Tough shit. Too damn bad for you. Im sick of sucking up to you on a constant basis. You want to ban me, then go the fuck ahead and ban me.

Members, I know you're going to flame me, so by all means, feel free to do so. 'Cause guess what? I dont give a shit anymore.

To Mega- Thank you for having built this wonderful site. It has been my pleasure to be a member for roughly the last year and a half. I commend you in your effort to make this information readily available to the public, despite the social stigmata attached to it.

To the friends Ive made through here- I will stay in touch all I can, so dont think Im going to disappear on you:)

Also, I encourage all the members who have problems with NBK and the way he is on this board to send messages to Megalomania asking to have this nutcase removed.

Best of wishes to you all,

*sigh*

Typical, but not unexpected, behavior. How many times have I given someone a rope and watched them hang themselves with it?

Excuses are like assholes...everyone has one...but chem has many more than the one God gives everyone else.

"Not enough time"

Funny, he used to tell me he only needed 4 hours sleep, so why does he now need 6-9? Lying about 4 hours? Yes, and I knew it the moment I heard it, but why argue about something stupid like that

In the time it took him to say all of the above ranting, he could have simply said "I'm resigning from the FTP host position as I no longer have the time to adequately perform my duties. I'll send the HDD's and DVD copies to whoever the Forum staff decides is up to the task."

Not only would this have shown a level of maturity far beyond what he has so well demonstrated that he lacks with his rant, but would also have earned him my respect for being mature about his responsibilities, and allowed him to continue on as a member, rather than a banned shitHED.

Of course, he'll not show the courtesy and maturity that ctrl_c showed by passing on the HDD's and hard copies of the FTP to the next person, but rather selfishly hoard them all to himself like the immature and spoiled brat that he is.

"MY TOYS!", Mr. Lee Smith screams at his monitor as he reads an e-mailed copy of this in his bedroom, shared with his kid sister reading over his shoulder.

And considering how you couldn't even manage to send two empty envelopes just one state away, for less than $1 total, I've not been holding my breath waiting for you to send the DVD's to me.

You can keep the DVD's chem, because they are my gift to you.

Just like a pirate stranded on a deserted island with his hoard of gold, you'll come to realize that all the "gold" in the world doesn't do you jack-shit worth of good if you have nowhere to "spend" it. :p

Do you see the analogy here, or must I make it Rain Man simple for you?

Though I am curious as to what "shit" I've pulled on you for the last week.

Do you mean disabling your access to a Forum that you don't have time to post on? A Forum that the only reason you've been allowed to continue posting on, after having been previously shamed into fleeing because of the stupidity you've previously shown here as "Raistalin" and "Lee Smith", is because of your useful idiot status as an FTP host?

Is that the shit I've pulled?

This is why I spent so little time talking to the turd. Despite trying to cultivate some maturity of thought in him, I never had much hope of succeding, and obviously haven't, as he is still a child.

Even though he may be a child, a useful idiot still has its uses, so I worked on him at that level. :)

"Try to get my life in order"

You're barely 16. You'll need a lot more than a couple of months to achieve order in your life. Double your entire current life experience, and you just might begin to achieve some order, and no guarantees of that either.

Is it that your head is spun over your bitch dumbing you? ;)

I've heard about your lamenting your loss of the hole, who left YOU, not the other way around, and saying that you're together, better than ever, is pathetic...weak...sniveling...and, well, just plain sad!

"I LOVE her. I realize that this is a foerign concept to you, so I wont expect you to understand it, but rather just accept it."

What do children (yes, you're still a child) know of love? What you're feeling is hormone induced "|U\/"...the rutting instinct of eons of evolutionary pressure to reproduce the species...not the emotional bonding of two mature souls who are past the merely physical attraction of youthful lusts.

To all those people who don't like me, yet still remain members here for some reason, whining to Mega isn't going to do your silly asses any good. Know why? I leave it to you to figure out, but I'll give you five years worth of clues to help you out. Mega and NBK are two halves of the same mind.

Read the "48 Laws of Power", come to understand the concepts behind the words, and you might start understanding why.

Chems' brown nosing is really obvious, thus being repulsive, and unseemly. Almost like one of the simpering courtiers of the old days, trying to curry favor from the King, but only earning his disgust instead.

I also recall hearing about a certain someone acting like a total asshole when he had a tiny bit of power on the IRC channel, without any compensating talents or skills, and running it into the ground.

Hehehehee....that's what's known as "the pot calling the kettle black".

There's another saying:

"Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it."

Perhaps all the staff should take a month long vacation, allowing anyone to post anything anywhere, and let you all see what this place would be like without "assholes" like me to enforce some order and discipline here.

The opposite of tyranny is anarchy. Which do you prefer?

Yes, shitHED served two masters, both here and there, as chem and rastilian.

Staff discussed it a while back, and it was decided that he'd be allowed to think he was pulling something over on us because of his useful idiot status as an FTP host.

Anyways, nightstalker will be posting the details of the new server here once it's ready to go, but that won't be for another week or so, and it's going to be just for a week to start with, for reasons he'll explain.

Quinn, I'd like to discuss the offer, but all things Forum related are discussed only in PGP. Get it, post your key, and then we'll talk.

I highly recommend reading “PGP for Dummies” before trying to send or receive anything encrypted. It would be NBK’s public key you would use (for instance) to send him a message and expect him to be able to retrieve it. Also, as a favor to you I’d like to suggest you revoke your public key from the server, unless you enjoy seeing your real name in writing for all who care to find out more about you than you might think possible. Just some friendly advice…

Correction: It was your post where I got your public key. Therefore, scrap all and generate a new set of keys, my friend. Annonimity reigns here...

When I read this the first time, I didn't consider it as weird or suspicious because I figured it was just an expression used to describe that Mega and NBK are two persons who have alot in common and who'd be there for eachother.

But, recently some other member pointed out to me that this should maybe be taken literally. Said member didn't want to ask it themselves because of fear of getting banned. So I'm taking the risk. :D

So, are Mega and NBK the same person?

Now, before this question is answered, I'd like to point it that it wouldn't matter to me if they were or were not. The combination of both is very benificial to the forum, so who gives a fuck?

Whining to NBK2000 does not work because he is a sociopath, whining to me dosen't work because I am too busy to care :)

Exactly what I told them. But ofcourse, the conspiracy theories will surface now, like he's in denial, etc...

Actually, I'm beginning to think that maybe you're them too. It would be the perfect disguise....

Then I would delete this post of yours to prevent the truth from surfacing. :p

Maybe we're just denying it to further sow doubt and confusion. ;)

Who's real, who's not, and just how deep does the rabbit hole go?

Is NBK just a virtual entity created by the internet personality known as "megalomania", used as a proxy to punish wrongdoers, while never soiling his own hands?

Or are there really two different people?

We're not telling! :p

Hmm the idea of NBK and Mega being the same person... kinda makes me think of that movie Fight Club... They're the same person and they don't even realize it!! :)

This maybe sound stupid, but...
I did exactly what I should do for account, I think. I completed the form and sent it. After two weeks I completed it again and sent the "process account" message to chemwarrior. It is more than month and still nothing happened...
Help everybody?

The "chemwarrior ftp" is down! the community is just buliding a new one. go to the "ftp p2p" section and read the threads. to apply for a chemwarrior account is futile.
