This may sound a bit strange, but I was wondering if anyone here knows how to make hard drinks (specifically rum.) I'm going on a short sailng trip just like in the good old days, :) and I thought it would be interesting to bring along some grog. However, I haven't been able to obtain any rum, and I'm too young to buy it. The rum wouldn't have to be of a very good quality, since I'd be using it in grog, anyway. Can anyone help? Thanks.

from what i've found, rum is made from distilling fermented mollasses or cane sugar, (not available in shops). I read that fermented treacle could be used, so that's probably your best bet. and if it all coes wrong, well atleast you'll have some treacle beer ;)

Ahh... Home distilling. I made my own still a while back, made some horrible stuff then gave it up. But if you like it, cool. So i'll just give you some links instead of explaining to you how it all works.

I got all my info from these sites. I used a water/yeast/sugar mash to make my liquor.
Hope it helps.
P.S An Explosives and weapons fourm isnt the best place to go looking for information on distilling your own hooch.

Teakettle Still (http://www.dangerouslaboratories.org/moon1.html)
Cheap(+-$30 including all materials&ingriedients),easy(I put it together in 25 minutes) but horribly inefficient.I was going to write up a full report later.Resulting product is quite drinkable and upon second distillation burns with a pretty blue flame. There is very little methyl alcohol produced if you follow the directions,so no,you wont go blind. The hardest part is finding sorghram mollasses(which I never did find),but corn syrup works great.Mad props to Marvin, who gave great advice along the way!
